1965 wurde die erste Folge der Sendereihe „Der Staatsanwalt hat das Wort“ ausgestrahlt. Ungewöhnlich: Erstmals wurden Delikte von DDR-Bürgern im Fernsehen thematisiert. Schließlich gab es nach Lesart der Parteiführung keine nennenswerte Kriminalität im entwickelten Sozialismus.
Moderator der Sendung war Peter Przybylski, Staatsanwalt bei der Generalstaatsanwaltschaft der DDR. Der Jurist mit der strengen Brille und dem SED-Abzeichen am Revers wurde in den kommenden Jahrzehnten zur prägenden Gestalt der Sendereihe. Namhafte Autoren, Regisseure und Schauspieler sowie die wirklichkeitsnahe Darstellung des Alltags in der DDR sorgten für einen anhaltenden Zuschauererfolg.
