In seinen jüngsten Arbeiten interpretiert Lorenzo Puglisi Meisterwerke der Kunstgeschichte und Ikonen des kollektiven Bildgedächtnisses neu. Mit dem Gemälde Il Grande Sacrificio erweist der italienische Künstler seinem Kollegen Leonardo da Vinci und dessen berühmtem Abendmahl seine Reverenz. Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert mit Skizzen und Vorstudien Puglisis Hommage, die auf ein Holzpaneel von sechs Meter Länge gemalt ist: Mit kräftigen Strichen weißer Farbe auf sonst schwarzem Grund sind nur die Gesichter und Gesten von Jesus und seinen Jüngern hervorgehoben. So kommt das einzigartige Netzwerk an Bezügen in da Vincis ikonischem Bild zum Vorschein. Il Grande Sacrificio wird anlässlich Leonardo da Vincis 500. Todestag in Mailand ausgestellt – auf der Rückseite der Wand, an der das Abendmahl hängt, in der Kirche Santa Maria delle Grazie. Neben Ausstellungsansichten aus Mailand enthält das Buch weitere Arbeiten der letzten Jahre, die auf Holz, Leinwand und Papier entstanden sind.Lorenzo Puglisi (*1971 in Biella, Italien) beschäftigt sich in seinen Gemälden mit tiefschwarzem Fond und weißen blitzartigen Gesten mit der malerischen Repräsentation der Wirklichkeit von der Renaissance bis heute.
