Epileptische Anfälle sind eine Manifestation übermäßiger, hypersynchroner Aktivität von Neuronen im Gehirn. Juvenile Epilepsie beim Lagotto Romagnolo ist eine Erbkrankheit mit bekanntem genetischem Defekt. Jokinnes et. al. berichteten, dass der betroffene Hund im Alter von 5 bis 9 Wochen begann, abnormale Anzeichen zu zeigen. Zu den Anzeichen gehörten Anfälle, die durch generalisierten Tremor, Ataxie und Steifheit gekennzeichnet waren. Anfälle waren unabhängig von der Tageszeit (Anfälle traten im Schlaf, während des Trainings oder beim Spielen mit anderen Welpen auf). Die Häufigkeit der Anfallsepisoden variierte bei den Welpen von mehreren Episoden pro Tag bis zu einer Episode pro Woche. Anfälle dauerten von 10 Sekunden bis zu einigen Minuten und bestanden aus Ganzkörpertremor (alle Gliedmaßen, Körper und Kopf zitterten). Einige Welpen saßen oder lagen während des Anfalls, aber einige Hunde konnten während der Anfallsepisoden laufen.

Mutation: LGI2-Gen

Gentest: Die für den Test verwendete Methode ist äußerst genau und ermöglicht eine vollständige Unterscheidung zwischen betroffenen Tieren, Trägern und gesunden Hunden. Tests können in jedem Alter durchgeführt werden.

You know a blanket’s soft when my dog immediately tries to appropriate it. This is incredibly soft, and actually pretty light; it makes for a good spring or summer blanket, or a throw in addition to something else in colder weather. (The twin is big enough that you can double it up over yourself to make it thicker in colder months.) I’m not sure while it’s called a “bubble” blanket - there is a very gentle egg crate shape to it, but it’s not rigid at all, and not dual-layer or filled with air or anything. It’s a very comfy throw (my dog can also attest to that) and for ~$20 (at the time of this review), it’s a great deal. I haven’t noticed any shedding, either, but I’m going to wash it on as gentle a cycle I can, to be safe.
