What It Does
Say hello to stable Vitamin C! Our Oil Soluble Vitamin C is one of the most studied active vitamin C ingredients in the world. Ultra stable, this Vitamin C ester is a proven antioxidant, shown to help clarify and brighten the skin and stimulate collagen production. It also helps reduce the damaged feel of hair.
Formulating with plain old ascorbic acid has many drawbacks - it is notoriously unstable and has poor availability for use in skin. This means formulators must use more, leading to irritation. Oil Soluble Vitamin C is considered an active Vitamin C. It is extremely stable, making formulation easy. It also penetrates the epidermis three-fold compared to ascorbic acid, so you can use less with even greater results. When Oil Soluble Vitamin C is in contact with the skin, it separates into Vitamin C and Isopalmitic acid thanks to an enzyme called esterase.
Oil Soluble Vitamin C has been shown to:
- Reduce UV induced skin pigmentation (3% use level, in vivo, Quasi-Drug in Japan)
- Reduce the appearance of age spots (10% use level, in vivo)
- Increase collagen synthesis (0.1% use level, in vitro)
Oil Soluble Vitamin C can also be used at 0.5% in an oil serum applied to hair for cuticle repair. The ester in our Oil Soluble Vitamin C reacts with the amino acids of damaged hair and makes the hair more hydrophobic, leaving it feeling shinier and healthier.
How It's Made
Ascorbic Acid from non-GMO corn and synthetic Isopalmitoyl Chloride are combined through chemical synthesis to form tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate.
