An in-depth look at the chemistry of essential oils.

Broken up into 9 detailed chapters, this book covers all the chemistry of essential oils including the biosynthesis of the oil components, an analysis of the oils, and the historical development of aromatherapy.

1 Introduction
A brief overview of the fundamental concepts of chemistry, relevant to the needs of the aromatherapy student.

2 Biosynthesis of Essential Oil Components
A closer look at the chemistry that goes on in the plant shows how natural substances are linked to one another. For instance how essential oil terpenes are building blocks for cholesterol, sexual and adrenal hormones or also carotenes. This chapter provides important fundamentals for Part II, The Biology of Essential Oils.

3 Common Essential Oil Components
To acquire an intimate understanding of the actual makeup of an essential oil, the composition of Lavender oil is taken as an example. From leaf alcohol (green leafy fragrance) to cis-octenol (strong mushroom odor) to linalyl acetate (pleasant fruity ester odor) some 40 compounds are discussed and their chemical formulae are given to illustrate the variety of components that can occur in an essential oil. Approximately 20 of the most interesting components are included in the olfactory toolbox in their pure state to allow the student to experience the spectrum of odors which all combine to make Lavender.

4 Secondary and Trace Components
Many essential oils derive their characteristic fragrance and therapeutic properties from compounds present only in a very low concentration, which nonetheless has distinctive fragrance impact. Their intensity makes these compounds especially interesting for healing as well as perfumery. Trace components of Rose, Jasmine and many others are discussed. Particularly striking examples are included in the olfactory toolbox in their pure state.

5 Symmetry
Unlike most laboratory chemicals essential oil components are synthesized in the plant with specific symmetry constraints. Chirality and enantiomeric purity, the latter a significant tool to ascertain the authenticity of essential oils, are discussed.

6 Analysis
Gas chromatography and other relevant methods are presented. The possibilities and especially the limits of these methods are discussed with respect to proving authenticity and detecting adulteration.

7 Historical Development
The French approach to aromatherapy relies heavily on ascribing certain properties to specific components of a given oil (‘functional group’ concept). This approach is older as one expects and its development, as well as its obvious limits in the wake of new biological discoveries, are discussed.

8 Chemotypes
The chemotype concept of essential oils is a direct result of the ‘functional group’ approach. The strengths and limitations of the concept are evaluated. Chemotypes offered on the market are discussed with respect to how important and useful they actually are.

9 Literature
The literature dealing with the chemistry and the composition of essential oils is vast. Selected titles, putting emphasis on a more academic approach are introduced.

Powerful and convenient
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
Really happy with this robot vacuum so far. The suction is strong and it picks up dust and pet hair easily. Mapping is accurate, and it cleans efficiently without missing spots. The self-emptying dock is super convenient and saves a lot of time. Mopping works well for light cleaning too.Overall, a great upgrade and definitely worth it.

Better Than Expected
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
Been using the Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 for a few days now and honestly it’s better than I expected. The suction power is strong, especially for dust, hair, and small debris. The mopping performance is also surprisingly good compared to older robot vacuums. What I like most is the automation — auto-emptying, auto mop washing, and auto drying make daily cleaning much easier.Navigation is smart and smooth, and it rarely bumps into things. The only downside is the dirty water tank needs regular cleaning, and thick carpets still clean better with a traditional vacuum.Overall, it’s a great upgrade for busy people who want to keep their home clean without spending too much time on it.

The experience has been excellent
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
Just received the Dreame L40 Ultra GEN2 and my first impression is very positive! The packaging feels premium, and the setup process was quick and easy through the app. The first mapping run was surprisingly fast, and the navigation was smart without randomly bumping into things. The cleaning performance exceeded my expectations. It picked up dust and hair very well on the first run, and the mopping feature left the floors looking noticeably cleaner. The noise level is also lower than I expected, which is a nice bonus. So far, I’m really happy with my first experience using it. It already feels like it’s going to save me a lot of time on cleaning, and I’m excited to keep using it!

Excellent robot, object avoidance needs work
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
We really enjoy this. It does a fantastic job. Pretty excellent object avoidance. Does not mop our rugs. It DOES NOT do a good job of avoiding cat poop, however. We had an incident where it mopped out floor with cat poop. Took us awhile to clean it out of the robot, get our floors clean, and get the smell out of our house. Other than that incident, we are very, very happy with it.

Smart, powerful, and genuinely makes daily life easier
Color: Black, Size: L40 Ultra Gen 2
I bought this robot vacuum recently and have been using it for several days now. So far, I’m really impressed. It is smart, powerful, and very convenient for daily cleaning. The biggest highlight for me is how well it avoids obstacles. It can recognize and move around things in the house automatically, so I don’t have to constantly watch it or move everything out of the way before starting a cleaning session. That makes it feel much more worry-free compared with other cleaning tools. The suction power is also very strong. For everyday floor cleaning, I honestly feel like it does an excellent job, even compared with my Dyson handheld vacuum. It picks up dust and debris well, and the cleaning result has been very satisfying. Another feature I really appreciate is the scheduling. I can set it to clean automatically every day, and it just takes care of the floors by itself. This has saved a lot of time and effort for both me and my wife. After using it, I feel like a good robot vacuum is almost as important as a dishwasher. It reduces a lot of daily housework and gives us more time to focus on work, hobbies, entertainment, and family life. It has quickly become a useful companion in our home. I have only used it for several days, so I can’t speak to long-term durability yet, but my first impression is very positive. If you are looking for a smart, powerful, and hands-free cleaning helper, I would definitely recommend this robot vacuum.
