  • HISTORY ASPECTS:
  • The Northrop Grumman B-2A “Spirit of Arizona” is one of the U.S. Air Force’s stealth strategic bombers assigned to the 509th Bomb Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base. As part of the small and highly specialized B-2 fleet, the aircraft embodies the revolutionary flying-wing design intended to penetrate advanced air defenses undetected. Constructed with radar-absorbing materials and shaped to minimize its radar signature, the B-2A was designed during the Cold War to deliver both conventional and nuclear payloads deep into heavily defended territory. The “Spirit of Arizona” name continues the tradition of honoring U.S. states while representing the technological pinnacle of long-range stealth strike capability.
  • The aircraft saw its first combat use during Operation Allied Force over Kosovo, where B-2 bombers flew nonstop missions from the continental United States to strike Serbian targets with precision-guided munitions. These missions demonstrated the bomber’s ability to project power globally without forward basing, a capability that reshaped modern strategic planning. Flying sorties lasting more than 30 hours, the B-2 proved that stealth and endurance could be combined to deliver decisive effects early in a conflict while avoiding enemy air defenses.
  • Following Kosovo, the “Spirit of Arizona” and other B-2s played significant roles in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. The bomber’s large payload capacity and precision strike capability made it ideal for targeting high-value infrastructure, command centers, and hardened facilities. Later, B-2 aircraft were again called into action during operations over Libya, where their stealth characteristics allowed them to strike heavily defended airfields and military installations at the opening of the campaign. In each of these conflicts, the B-2 demonstrated its ability to operate with near impunity in contested airspace.
  • This 1:200 scale model captures the sleek flying-wing profile and distinctive low-observable shape that make the bomber instantly recognizable, offering collectors a detailed miniature of one of the most advanced and combat-proven aircraft ever to serve in the U.S. Air Force.

parodies of a classic

In Shamela, Fielding gives us the behind-the-scenes true Hollywood version of Pamela's story (and it's tabloid worthy). In Joseph Andrews, Fielding shares the tale of Pamela's brother caught in the same sort of madcap antics she endured.

An Excellent Film
The success of this film is derived from Paul Schrader’s concept for the film and his hiring of his production designer, Eiko Ishioka, a Japanese female artist. The four chapters are presented in a simple setting with ingenious design while telling Mishima’s personal history and development into a Nobel price winning author and martyr for his political beliefs. This blu ray is a new restored 4K digital transfer of the director’s cut. As usual Criterion Collection also included a wealth of commentaries, interviews, a 1985 documentary about Mishima and a booklet. A very best blu ray package if you are interested in the person and subject matters.

Astonishing Movie
This is exactly the kind of movie that would never receive funding today and get within hailing distance of production. This movie was my 'gateway drug' into the dark and fascinating world of Yukio Mishima which is one of those things where, as the saying goes, "If you know, you know." This film is basically a collection of several short films woven together. One is the story of Mishima himself, from childhood up to the morning of his last day. The other shorts are taken from four of his novels, including my personal favorite, 'Runaway Horses'. For the biographical portions of the film, which are mostly in black-and-white, Roy Scheider's narration is excellent as well. All in all, this movie is a beautiful introduction to Yukio Mishima as well as an artistic triumph for Paul Schrader.
