"An entry for one of the best shows of 2022. . . . Mitchell, then in her 50s, reaches peak form in gathering brushstrokes that flicker and burn like auras on fire." --Jerry Saltz, New York magazine

This highly anticipated publication focuses on the years 1979 to 1985--a significant and deeply generative period within Joan Mitchell's decades-long career. As Mitchell became even more fully immersed in daily life at her property in Vétheuil, France--surrounded by lush gardens, and challenged and inspired by new creative relationships--her studio practice flourished and her work became even more ambitious and expansive. Executed in an increasingly bold palette, the works from this period exemplify Mitchell's nuanced mastery of composition, scale, and color. In addition to her large-scale abstract works, this publication features numerous smaller paintings and a selection of archival materials.

Included in the book are several texts that complement the illustrated works. A new essay by the bestselling author Julie Otsuka recollects her encounters with Mitchell's paintings over the years. A fascinating conversation between Mitchell and the French philosopher Yves Michaud from 1986 is featured. Reflections by the artists Shinique Smith and Lily Stockman each explore a unique component of Mitchell's oeuvre or practice, underscoring Mitchell's continued influence on artists today.

About the Author
Joan Mitchell (1925-1992) established a singular visual vocabulary over the course of her more than four decade career. Born in Chicago and educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, from which she received a BFA (1947) and an MFA (1950), Mitchell moved to New York in 1949 and was an active participant in the downtown arts scene. She began splitting her time between Paris and New York in 1955, before moving permanently to France in 1959. In 1968, Mitchell settled in V?theuil, a small village northwest of Paris, while continuing to exhibit her work throughout the United States and Europe. When Mitchell passed away in 1992, her will specified that a portion of her estate should be used to establish a foundation to directly support visual artists.

Julie Otsuka is the award-winning and best-selling author of The Swimmers (2022), The Buddha in the Attic (2012), and When the Emperor Was Divine (2003). Her books have been awarded the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, and the American Library Association Alex Award, among other distinctions.

Shinique Smith is an American artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, video, installation, and performance. Exploring ideas of transformation and ritual through materials such as fabric, clothing, and personal belongings, breath, bundling, collage, and gesture, Smith has built a complex visual vocabulary that resonates on intimate and social scales.

Yves Michaud is a French philosopher, writer, and professor emeritus of philosophy at the Sorbonne, Paris. In the 1970s, he began working as an art critic, developing relationships with contemporary artists of the time in Paris, including Joan Mitchell. Michaud has published widely on the relationships of the arts and culture in a globalized, technological world. From 1989 to 1997 he was the director of the ?cole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Lily Stockman is a Los Angeles-based painter. Drawing from nature and its grammar of symmetry, camouflage, and repetition, Stockman plumbs the American landscape for her distinctive palette of glowing, tertiary colors. Her essays have appeared in Vogue, the Iceland Review, Monocle, and books on artists, and her work is in the permanent collections of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, and the Orange County Museum of Art, among other institutions.

Perfect for Sensitive Skin – Gentle, Moisturizing and Long-Lasting
Scent: Fragranced, Size: 30.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
If I could give it 10 stars, I would! This Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash is absolutely amazing and hands down my favorite Dove body wash so far. The size is large, so it lasts a long time and offers excellent value for the price, especially considering the quality. The texture is thick and creamy, not watery at all. It spreads very well on the skin and a little goes a long way. The scent is very pleasant, soft, and not overpowering—it actually reminds me of baby powder, which I personally love. It feels clean and comforting, not artificial or strong. While showering, it feels gentle and luxurious, and after rinsing, my skin feels soft, smooth, and well-hydrated, never dry or tight. This is especially important for me because I have sensitive skin, and this body wash has been perfect. Dove is an excellent brand, and I’ve tried several of their body washes over the years. This one was also recommended to me by both a dermatologist and a gynecologist, which gave me even more confidence in using it regularly. Overall, this is an outstanding product. I highly recommend it, especially for anyone with sensitive skin. If you’re looking for a moisturizing, gentle, and high-quality body wash, this one is a must-try. 💙 Super recommended!

Great moisturizing body wash, but the scent takes some getting used to
Scent: Fragranced, Size: 30.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've been using Dove products for years and this body wash does not disappoint when it comes to moisturizing. My skin feels genuinely soft and hydrated after every shower without that tight, dry feeling I get with other cleansers. The no sulfates and no parabens formula is a big plus for me as I've been trying to be more conscious about what goes on my skin. At 30.6 oz it's also a great size that lasts a good while. My only real note is that the scent is a bit different than what I expected — it's not unpleasant but there's a slightly unusual undertone that I couldn't quite put my finger on at first. It took me maybe a week or so of using it before I stopped noticing it. If you're sensitive to scents it might throw you off initially, but it does fade quickly once you're out of the shower. Overall a solid body wash that delivers on the moisture promise — just go in knowing the scent might need a little adjustment period.

Wow, Dove really outdid themselves. Great product.
Scent: Fragranced, Size: 30.6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Wow, what a difference what a difference Amazon basic body wash is what I was using before to be honest and it used to be very good. I don’t know if they changed the formula but that formula now it doesn’t lather up. You have to use half the bottle to get it to lather up this one lathers up amazingly well and you only need a few pushes. As a guy, I love it. We have dry skin too, just like anybody else so between moisturizer and lather , the scent the skin protection the skin softeners the whole thing it’s great. And you get a lot of of it too, which is awesome so overall at least to me a great value for the money
