In the 1850s the first of his descendants immigrated to America in the form of Frederick Ludwig Bartruff and his brother, Jacob Conrad Bartruff. They were soon followed by their father and several of their siblings. They first settled in New York where they remained for only a short time before moving into Ohio and Illinois. They first settled in New York where they remained for only a short time before moving into Ohio and Illinois. In later years some of the members of this family continued their move west, settling in Oregon where they raised large families and contributed to the development of the state.
The genealogy of the Bartruff family starts in Germany and follows their lives with documentation from the local church records in Germany to the census, death, burial and family records in the United States
