A long-awaited collection from a pioneer of the spoken word movement, these poems soar and sway with the syncopation and melodies of jazz. Portraits, chronicles, incantations and invocations, drawn from a lifetime of prolific activity.

From his early days in the Black Arts Movement and up to the present, Daaood has been a powerful artistic and social force, an inspired seer/seeker. Whether collaborating with renowned musicians, heading up a performance group or inspiring and nurturing new talent, he speaks to and from the urgency of his time.

"Saxophones offers a good sample of the work that has made Da ood such a respected figure among black poets, and among all poets who take their role as bards and teachers straight, no irony. Early poems establish a voice as one that is at once fiery and philosophical, scattershot but continually looking for order and reason in a landscape usually devoid of it..." --The LA Weekly

"Jazz at its core is cosmic, and Da ood taps into its unifying vision in his powerfully percussive, prayerful, firmly rooted yet soaring, direct and accessible poetry... In this slender but mighty retrospective volume covering four decades, he offers burning social critique..." --Booklist

"A powerful collection, broken into sections ranging from 1970 through 2004, Da ood takes us on a dance with him, revisiting each era, sharing his insights. Vivid images come to mind as the poems are read, reflecting on his artistic nature. Woven like an intricate web, he chronicles his anger against racism and injustices, while at the same time, allows us to witness his influence on others. Like a sensuous dance, the poems go up and down, seemingly getting better as they progress, allowing the reader to hold onto a piece of time in the process." --www.rawsistaz.com

"There are prophets among us and Kamau Da ood is one of them. His poems are psalms. HIs language shimmers, raging against injustice and racism, yet held in tender balance. His images are irridescent and deep with river song. His art is an abiding love for the world. His genius is that he believes it. After you are blessed by this book, you too will believe." --Chris Abani, author of GraceLand and Dog Woman

"Long before poetry slams became the literary equivalent of monster-truck rallies, City Lights Press was at the heart of San Francisco's poetry renaissance, putting out volumes by Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman - the true founders of the so-called spoken word movement. All of these writers appeared in the Pocket Poet series, which could fit in a jeans pocket and made a perfect companion for cross-country jaunts. The series survives, and the latest addition is Kamau Daaood's The Language of Saxophones, a book so hip and full of soul even Miles Davis would have treated it with respect. --John Freeman, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Kamau Daaood, performance poet and community arts activist, is the artistic director of Los Angeles' World Stage Performance Gallery, which he co-founded with master drummer Billy Higgins. His work can be heard on his award-winning CD Leimert Park.

So So Amazing
Format: Kindle
I received this book wiht the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review. In this book we meet June Wilder, Rhett Lawson, Cole Thibault, & Elias Nystrom. When this book opens we find that June has just joined the Atlanta Reapers as their new physical trainer. From the moment she starts she knows that she is going to get push back but there is something about not only this team but these guys that have become more to her than she thought when she first started. Rhett is the kind of guy who make a joke with anyone. One night when something happens with June he realizes there is something more than just jokes with her. Cole has been compartmentalized his life for years now. With the addition of June to the team he finds himself finding a person who understands his compartments and lets him be him. Elias is a man who is a an island. When he learns that opening up to one person who sees him allows him to grow and heal in many ways. Can they all find a HEA or will their positions make that impossible? Another amazing story by this author. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Good spicy campy hockey
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed the character development. Reading about their growth and dealing with individual issues made good entertainment. Some surprising twists that made the book even better. Really glad we didn't have to go down the angst road where the public got to damage the budding relationships.

Great read!
Format: Kindle
Wonderful characters with great humor, a bit of mystery and a strong silent grumpy Sentinel to stand with the leading lady. They make her stronger but she also makes them stronger. I love the dynamics and the way it played out. This was a fun read!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

June lives her life squarely in the NSFW zone...
Format: Kindle
June Wilder has embarked on the career of a lifetime-- the newest head physical trainer for NHL's Atlanta Reapers! She's relatively young for the position, not to mention female. In a male dominated sport, she's hoping to one day earn the trust and respect of the players, coaching staff and the organization.  What she doesn't expect is to be an equal participant in flirty banter and NSFW activities in her office with handsome Right Wing Rhett Lawson. She quickly finds that Team Captain Cole Thibault is a confident and  calming presence in her daily work activities-- and the man she goes on quite possibly the most perfect date with. Then there's Elias Nystrom, the Swedish Goalie who is quiet, HULKING in size, and downright frightens her-- with whom she shares a secret which could get her in hot water if discovered.  Each of these team members intrigues her. Each she has a relationship with that is not entirely permitted as their head physical trainer. As she gets to know each of them better, she's falling deeper for each of them. Will she successfully navigate through the season without losing not only her job but her heart?  What happens when each of the men find out about each other? Will she be asked to choose between them?  This book has everything I look for in a sinfully decadent read-- a strong, independent, and likable FMC; charming, protective, and sexy MMCs; a plot that is entertaining, well thought out and executes some unexpected twists; and has chemistry that explodes off of the pages. Once again author Cassie Cole has expertly achieved all of these things in her latest book "Hat Trick". I'm a big fan of the RH genre. Of all the authors I read, Cassie Cole is far and away my favorite to date. If you read this book, you will not be disappointed!

Hot enough to melt the ice rink
Format: Kindle
This was yet another great read by Cassie Cole. June has just started as the trainer for the Atlanta Reapers. Succeeding in this male dominated role is important to her, but the more she learns about these men the more she wonders if some things are worth risking everything for. As their trainer, the men are supposed to be off limits, but they can't deny the pull they each feel. The closer to Cole, Rhett & Elias she becomes the more she realizes that she may not be able to choose between them. Is it worth the risk to her career to continue to pursue a relationship with one of the men.... let alone the risk to all their careers if they would be open to consider a more unconventional relationship. Is love worth the risk? Read this steamy story to find out!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
