Dream pays homage to the mystical allure of Mount Bromo, one of Indonesia’s most active and revered volcanoes. Seated within a vast natural caldera, its crater offers one of the most breathtaking sunrises in the world—a spectacle where golden light slowly washes over the ashen landscape, dissolving the night like the fading remnants of a dream.

The legend of Bromo dates back to the 15th century, when Roro Anteng, a princess of the Majapahit Empire, and her husband, Joko Seger, sought refuge in the region. Naming it Tengger—a fusion of their own names—they ruled over a prosperous land but remained childless. Desperate, they prayed to the gods from the edge of Mount Bromo’s crater, pleading for descendants. Their wish was granted, but at a terrible price: the gods demanded that their last-born child be sacrificed to the volcano.

Blessed with many children, the couple could not bear to part with their youngest, Kesuma. But when they defied the gods, Bromo threatened to unleash fire and devastation upon their people. With heavy hearts, they fulfilled the divine decree, casting Kesuma into the depths. It is said that his voice echoed from within the crater, commanding the Tengger people to honor his sacrifice. To this day, the Kasodo Ceremony is held annually, as the Tengger community ascends the volcano under the midnight sky, bringing offerings to appease the gods.

The name Bromo derives from the Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation, and at the crater’s rim stands an idol of Ganesha, the god of wisdom. Here, under the celestial expanse, belief and devotion merge with the untamed forces of nature.

Dream embodies the essence of this sacred place—a realm where hopes are whispered into the abyss, where prayers rise with the swirling mist, and where fate rests in the hands of unseen deities. Just as the Tengger people offer their tributes to the gods, we, too, surrender to the unknown, watching as the last stars of the silent night fade into the golden embrace of the morning sun.
