Winter Glass is a pastel, frosty blue crackle glaze.

The AMACO Kiln Ice range is inspired by traditional Guan and Snowflake glazes, characterised by a fine network of hairline cracks known as "crazing". These glazes are translucent overall, but become slightly opaque where the cracks develop, resulting in a beautiful layered visual texture. Variations in application thickness and firing technique can also affect the fired result.

• Firing range: Cone 5 - Cone 6

Application:

3-4 heavy coats are recommended. Let each coat dry prior to applying the next. A thicker application will produce a more dramatic effect. Glaze thickness will affect the size of the crackle: smaller and tighter where thin, larger and hexagonal where thick. The clay body used will also affect the crackle.

Brown or buff clays that do not contain manganese work best with these glazes.

Safety Information:

These glazes are food safe, but due to the surface texture they are not recommended for food surfaces. 

Due to variations in raw materials used during manufacturing, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new batch number of glaze.
