"A touching and absorbing portrait of one of the forgotten heroes of World War II . . . A. J. Baime has given us a memorable portrait not just of an industry going to war but of a remarkable figure who helped to make victory possible."--Wall Street Journal

As the United States entered World War II, the military was in desperate need of tanks, jeeps, and, most important, airplanes. Germany had been amassing weaponry and airplanes for five years--the United States for only months. So President Roosevelt turned to the American auto industry, specifically the Ford Motor Company, where Edsel Ford made the outrageous claim that he would construct the largest airplane factory in the world, a plant that could build a "bomber an hour." And so began one of the most fascinating and overlooked chapters in American history.

Drawing on unique access to archival material and exhaustive research, A. J. Baime has crafted a riveting narrative that hopscotches from Detroit to Washington to Normandy, from the assembly lines to the frontlines, and from the depths of professional and personal failure to the heights that Ford Motor Company and the American military ultimately achieved in the sky.

"Wars are fought on many fronts, and A. J. Baime chronicles this little-known, but terrifically important battle to build America's bomber force with narrative zest and delicious detail. Put simply, it's a great read."--Neal Bascomb, best-selling author of The Perfect Mile

"Fast-paced . . . the story certainly entertains."--New York Times

"The" Standard for All-Weather Notebooks
Color: Black, Size: 3 Pack
This Rite In The Rain notebook is the leading brand for a reason. It works exactly as advertised, performing flawlessly in conditions where a normal notebook would be ruined. I’ve used alternative brands in the past and ran into issues with the paper or ink smudging, but I’ve had no such problems with this notebook. The weatherproof paper and sturdy cover ensure that your notes stay safe and legible, no matter the conditions.

An Amazing product, that works
Color: Green, Size: 1 Pack
I bought the (Rite in the Rain - Green Tactical Note Book (All Weather) for my line of work with the sheriffs department. And when your note taking can be the difference between your job and keeping someone bad off the streets, it's important to ensure that your notes are going not only to last, but handle all situations (like weather). I recieved my notebook about 5 days ago, and decided to give it a try, First I noticed it looked and almost felt like ordinary paper, but with a more thick quality with it. I began to write simple phrases on the first page with a variety of writing utensils, I tried an ordinary pen, a pencil, a 0.5mm pen and pencil, ballpoint pens, and so on. Then I tore out the first page which was as easy if not easier than an ordinary notebook. I took it over to the sink area and began to run water on the paper, for about 2 minutes the water beaded off the paper with ease, i turned the water off and examined the paper, it was only wet on the surface, i wiped the excess water off and perfect, it felt like the original paper with no signs of any water damage. This is a great product for someone who may work in an outdoor environment or just near water I highly Recommend this product to anyone in the market for a notebook that not only has quality but is resistant to everyday situations, thanks (Rite in the Rain) for making a great product.
