Moonshine Baker: a hobbyist or professional baker that thrives on coffee to get them through the night of baking and decorating by the light of the moonshine.

[Whistle blows.] The time is 7 pm as I reach to turn off the hissing tea kettle, ready to fix myself a fresh pot of french press coffee. The baby is down for bed, and I'm ready for my first (yes, you heard that right) cup of coffee for the night. As I sit at the kitchen table gazing out into the crisp winter's night, I see the bright white moon rising over the fence. I start to think about my great grandparents who lived in Kentucky during the 1920's Prohibition era. Speakeasies and moonshine routes have always been fascinating to me and I can still remember the stories my grandma would tell us.  She is the reason for my love of all things Roaring Twenties.

What does this have to do with cookies? Well, most hobby bakers start off baking and selling their goods to family and friends, with the occasional trusted referral. Most of us are living on a few hours of sleep as we bake through the night; surviving on multiple cups of coffee (and a sweet treat or two) to keep us awake. I wanted to pay respects to my ancestors; the hustlers with entrepreneurial spirits aka people running by the moonshine. We start off with a brown butter coffee base before adding in a little more coffee, milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate for the perfect 'pick me up' cookie.

This recipe is done by volume, not weight.

Please see my Instagram page @TheSpeakeasyBakingCo for videos on how to rollout your dough in sheets between plastic wrap. This is the best way to prep your dough and save your wrists from trying to rollout chilled dough. The highlight video is titled "Roll Out."

Comfortable Shoes Right Out of the Box
Size: 9, Color: Black
I bought these shoes for my husband. He has a very hard time finding quality, comfortable shoes. These shoes are just as comfortable as his New Balance. He uses them as a dress shoe and wears them at least once a week. There was no break in period necessary. They were comfortable right out of the box! The only thing we didn't like was the white sole color. Once I knew he was going to keep them, I used a black sharpie marker to color the soles black. Instant amazing, comfortable dress shoes. They were well worth the cost. If you or your SO needs a comfortable pair of shoes, we highly recommend them.

Decent Shoes with Misleading Description (Not Leather)
Size: 12 Wide, Color: Black, Size: 12 Wide, Color: Black
I only look for leather when I’m purchasing dress shoes. Under the description “details” on this item it lists the shoe as leather upper and inner lining. A photo shows “genuine Napa leather lining”. If you keep reading (which I have now that I’ve received the shoes) it shows “faux leather” in the small print and that is not “leather”. I run a small leather business and this irks me because it’s clearly false advertising. The details also show the product is made in Brazil but when they arrived today, the shoe tag shows “Made in China” and “Man Made upper and lower”. I don’t hate the shoes. They look nice. What I know is they won’t hold up over time like leather, which is why the description should be accurate and not misleading.
