Two years ago now, Dam-Funk released his debut album, Toeachizown, an epic of modern funk, containing over two hours of music in five separately-titled parts. The vinyl release originally came out in a 5 LP boxed set. These boxed set versions are long gone and out of print now, but we finally have the five records available again as separate discs. "This 4th volume of Toeachizown, subtitled Hood, is one of my personal favorites of the set. With these songs, I delved into another side of my life experiences. These are songs that peepz can glide to while hittin' corners down streets like Crenshaw Bl. In L.A., Lincoln Ave. In Pasadena, Whittier Bl. In East L.A., or any Bl. ^#^or street, for that matter, in the world, with total Funk confidence & ease. The standout track on this volume for me is "Brookside Park", as this is a park in my hometown of Pasadena, CA that I witnessed something very special & unique on one hazy Sunday afternoon back in the day. This particular track is over 9: mins long of pure Modern-Funk bizness. With lyrics that came to my head, while composing this on the spot, such as: "Brookside Park!... I'll never forget that the way that the sun shined there... Brookside Park!... Gangsta's & UFO's... Brookside Park!... If you were there you'd know... Brookside Park!"; I feel, with the overall soundscapes combined with the lyrics, captures the vibe of that particular day in my life, perfectly. This volume also includes tracks that MOST DEFINITELY BANG in the clubs such as: "Hood Pass Intact", "Killdatmuthafu*ka" & (the co-produced by) the Orange County based, up & coming Funk collective known as WIZARDZ with the uptempo glider; "Boogie Slyde". Another joint on this volume: "Mobbin' Thru Busters" is a synth-heavy, slow rollin' personal favorite of mine as well. All in all, this 4th volume subtitled: 'Hood' is for my true Funksta's, G-Funksta's, Gangsta's (keep it mild-mannered though y'all!), & just ALL genuine appreciators of this 'Modern-Funk' music coming outta Los Angeles, California at this moment. I hope U dig it. And, as with everything I do musically... this is 4 U. Peace fam & please stay tuned for the finale: Vol. 5 - 'SKY'."- D-F.

Great size, design, and 100% metal grinding mechanism

***PLEASE NOTE: This review is only for the more expensive version here with the all metal grinding mechanism and not the cheaper version that looks the same but has a ceramic grinder that’s also available on this page — hope this helps avoid potential confusion. My advice is to splurge on the metal grinder version.
***UPDATE 3/18/26***
Well, after almost two years of fairly heavy daily use the first flaw has emerged so thought I’d share. Yesterday the silver wrapping on the grinder part came loose making it hard to turn the grinder as it was slipping. I did a quick fix by adding some super glue around the seam at the top of the grinder and that’s done the trick at least for now. I’m leaving my 5-star rating because I remain thrilled with its overall performance and frankly would’ve ordered another one if this fix didn’t work, but so far it appears to be holding. 🤞 So still very happy but just wanted to share in case anyone else experiences this.

So I’ve now had this for over a year, and under pretty heavy daily use I’m happy to report it still works as well as the day I bought it. Great product, and it’s a pleasure to use every day.

So, after almost four months of pretty heavy daily use I just wanted to report back that this grinder continues to work perfectly and shows every sign of lasting for years to come. I especially like the glass jar so I can see when I’m running low on black peppercorns, and even though it’s got a small form factor it holds a lot so I don’t have to refill it frequently despite using it multiple times daily. I’m super happy with this product all around and recommend it highly!!!

Been using this for a few days now and am very happy so far. I’ve used a traditional wood pepper mill my whole life, but now it’s just me so I wanted something smaller and with a glass body so I can easily see when I need to add more peppercorns. I also wanted an all metal grinding mechanism (that this version has for an few dollars more) instead of ceramic, which doesn’t seem to hold up as well, and I definitely wanted no plastic parts involved in the actual grinding either — don’t need any more microplastics in my diet thank you. This one seemed to check all the boxes, and so far it’s been great. Initially it was set to a more fine, powdery grind, but it was super easy to adjust to a more course grind that I prefer and it’s perfect. Overall it seems well built and is very easy to use, and as long as this holds up it’s a definite keeper. I’ll report back if any future mishaps, but as of now I’d recommend this very highly!

This spice grinder grinds my cumin and coriander seeds perfectly with very little effort and it’s attractive. I’m sure it will last longer than my plastic one that broke recently. Very happy with my purchase!
