artist biography
Karl Thorsten Andersson was born September 7, 1910 in Östra Tollstad. He was a Swedish painter and print maker.

Andersson was predominantly self-taught as an artist, but along with Linköping artists Alf Gustavsson, Ivar Hammarlund and Eric Persson, he attended ABF (Arbetarnas bildningsförbund) from 1938 to 1942, which organised painting courses under the direction of Leoo Verde and Rolf Trolle.  He took private study trips to Denmark, Norway, Spain and France. The four friends also formed an amateur art association, "Fri Konst", and shared a studio. The association was dissolved in 1956 when the association Linköpingskonstnärnerna LK was formed and included both painters, graphic artists and sculptors. Stenhusgården was used as an exhibition space. 

Andersson had solo exhibitions in Motala in 1945 and in Linköping at Nystedt's art salon in 1947 and 1949. He has participated in the Östgöta Art Association's exhibitions in 1945 and the Linköping artists' group exhibitions. He showed work in exhibitions in Vadstena, Karlskoga and Ystad. He is best known for his  of landscapes, figuraitve works and urban scenes painted mainly in oil, but also in watercolour and pencil. He also created woodcuts

Examples of Andersson’s work are held in public collections including the Östergötland's Museum, Östergötland's County Council, Linköping municipality, Mjölby municipality, Motala municipality, Norrköping municipality and at the Svenska målarförbundet (Swedish Painters' Association) in Stockholm. 

He passed away on July 19, 1998 in Linköping.
