Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module for MMF

Experience high-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity with the Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module for MMF. This enterprise-grade transceiver is engineered to deliver reliable, low-latency uplinks for data centers, server clusters, and campus networks. The SR (short-range) module uses an 850 nm VCSEL to transmit over multimode fiber (MMF), making it ideal for rack-to-rack connections, wiring closets, and mini-closets where fiber runs stay within a few hundred meters. Designed for seamless integration with Cisco switches, routers, and optical transport devices, it also maintains compatibility with many third-party platforms that adhere to the SFP+ standard. With Cisco's legacy of reliability and performance, you can count on sustained 10 Gbps throughput, clear signal integrity, and predictable behavior in crowded, hot data-center environments. This module is built to simplify upgrades and expansions, helping IT teams scale capacity without downtime or lengthy reconfigurations.

  • High-speed 10Gbps performance for uplinks, server connections, and storage networking, delivering the bandwidth required for virtualization, high-availability clusters, backups, and multi-VM workloads with low latency and consistent throughput.
  • Multimode fiber (MMF) compatibility optimized for 850 nm transmission over MMF cables, enabling cost-efficient short-range deployments in data centers, server rooms, and campus backbones where fiber runs are contained within racks and adjacent rooms.
  • Easy integration and broad interoperability with Cisco gear and many third-party switches that support the SFP+ standard, reducing interoperability concerns and accelerating migrations across mixed-vendor environments.
  • Enterprise-grade reliability and endurance designed for continuous operation in dense data centers, with precise manufacturing, robust construction, and access to Cisco’s support ecosystem for long-term reliability and serviceability.
  • Efficient, hot-swappable design allowing safe, on-the-fly upgrades in compatible chassis and devices, minimizing downtime during maintenance while delivering steady, predictable performance in 24/7 networks.

Technical Details of Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module for MMF

  • Interface: SFP+ transceiver module for 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
  • Wavelength: 850 nm short-range VCSEL for multimode fiber.
  • Fiber type: Multimode fiber (MMF), typically optimized for 50/125 μm or 62.5/125 μm cables.
  • Maximum link length: Up to 400 meters on OM4 MMF; up to 300 meters on OM3 MMF; shorter on older OM2 fiber types depending on quality and routing.
  • Connector: LC duplex optical connector for reliable, low-loss terminations.
  • Data rate: 10 Gbps full-duplex operation, suitable for 10GBASE-SR networks and link aggregation scenarios.
  • Distance and compatibility: Short-range reach optimized for data centers and campus networks; interoperable with Cisco devices and other SFP+ capable platforms that adhere to MSA standards.
  • Operating temperature: Commercial-grade range (typical 0°C to 70°C), suitable for controlled IT environments.
  • Power usage: Low-power SFP+ module designed to minimize heat and power consumption in dense racks.
  • Diagnostics: Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM/DOM) capabilities supported on compatible devices to monitor optical power, temperature, and other module health parameters.
  • Certifications: Cisco original part with RoHS compliance and SFP+ MSA compatibility for broad ecosystem support.

How to install Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module for MMF

  • Power down or confirm hot-swapping is supported on your device before removing any existing module.
  • Remove the current SFP+ module from its slot with care, taking care not to bend the connector or disturb nearby cables.
  • Align the Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module with the SFP+ slot, ensuring the connector is oriented correctly, then slide it firmly into the cage until the latch engages securely.
  • Connect the MMF fiber pair using a clean LC duplex fiber patch cable; verify that connectors are clean and free of dust or debris that could degrade signal quality.
  • Power on or resume operation and confirm link status via the device’s management interface or console; indicators should show a stable 10 Gbps link and activity.
  • If your network equipment supports it, enable DOM/DDM monitoring and log the link parameters in your network management system for ongoing visibility and proactive maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

  • Q: Is the Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Module for MMF compatible with non-Cisco switches? A: Yes. The module follows the SFP+ standard and is designed to operate with other vendors’ switches and devices that support SFP+ interfaces; however, interoperability can vary by vendor. Always verify compatibility with your equipment vendor and use appropriate MMF cabling (LC duplex) to ensure reliable operation.
  • Q: What distance can I expect with MMF? A: The typical reach depends on fiber type. On OM4 MMF, you can expect up to about 400 meters; on OM3 MMF, up to around 300 meters. Distances are shorter on older OM2 fiber. Real-world results may vary with cable quality, connector loss, and channel characteristics.
  • Q: What cables are recommended? A: Use high-quality multimode fiber (MMF) cables with LC duplex connectors, preferably OM3 or OM4-rated, properly terminated and cleaned. Poor fiber condition or degraded connectors can reduce link length and performance.
  • Q: Does this module support Digital Diagnostics Monitoring (DDM/DOM)? A: DOM/DDM support depends on the hosting device. Many Cisco SFP+ modules provide DOM capabilities, which allow you to monitor transmit power, temperature, laser status, and other parameters through a compatible management interface.
  • Q: What is the warranty? A: Cisco-provided modules typically come with a standard manufacturer's warranty and post-purchase support through Cisco or authorized partners. Exact terms and duration vary by region and vendor agreement; consult your purchase documentation for details.
  • Q: Can I mix this module with Cisco and non-Cisco hardware? A: In mixed-vendor environments, interoperability should be tested prior to deployment. While SFP+ modules are generally interoperable when standards are met, some features and performance may depend on firmware versions and vendor-specific implementations. Plan testing as part of your deployment strategy.

Good Smell, Tough Texture
Scent: Sandalwood, Size: 2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The scent is actually pretty good. The sandalwood smells natural and clean, not overly strong or chemical-like. It has a nice masculine smell that most guys will probably like. My biggest issue is the texture. The balm is pretty hard in the container, and it’s actually difficult to dig your finger in to get some out. I expected it to be a little softer and easier to work with. Once you warm it up in your hands it melts down okay, but getting it out of the tin takes more effort than it should. As far as performance, it does help tame the beard a bit and adds some light conditioning, but the hold isn’t very strong. If you have a thicker or more stubborn beard, you may find it doesn’t control it as much as you’d like. Overall, the scent is good and the quality seems decent, but the hardness of the balm and average hold make it just an okay product for me. That’s why I landed at three stars.

Scent is not overpowering
Scent: Vanilla, Size: 2 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The vanilla scent is not overpowering. I smell it when I first use it in the morning but not all day long. The balm is good and keeps my beard looking good all day.

Great Scent
I heard about Cremo for my husband through a friend. He loves the scent, and how hydrated his skin feels after with no filmy residue.
