Heritage from the Wild

Sourced from wild tea trees in the pristine Haruno region of Shizuoka, Japan, our Zairai First Flush Oolong represents a rare treasure in the tea world. This exceptional oolong harvests only the first tender leaves of spring, capturing the pure essence of Haruno's untamed terroir.

A Distinctive Character

Unlike traditional brown oolongs, this medium-roasted tea (level 5) presents with a captivating clear green hue accented by subtle brown undertones—reminiscent of fine sencha but with oolong's complex depth. The extended fermentation process unique to Haruno's tea tradition imparts a distinctive astringency that tea connoisseurs will appreciate.

Master Crafted

Final Roasting Master SAKUYA notes: "It's the perfect end with its greenish oolong tea-ness. Roasting it up gives you the dreamiest of aromas."

Limited Annual Production

With just 35kg (77 lbs) produced annually, this organic tea represents a truly limited offering from the Tenryu farm.

Perfect Brewing

  • Leaves: 1 tsp (4g/0.14oz)
  • Water: 200ml (6.76oz) at 95°C (203°F)
  • Steep Time: 150 seconds (2min 30sec)

The Artisan Process

Our Zairai First Flush undergoes a meticulous seven-step crafting process—from careful harvesting of young leaves to withering, tossing, oxidation, fixation, rolling, and final drying—preserving the tea's natural character while developing its distinctive flavor profile.

Experience the medium caffeine energy and exceptional character of this rare organic oolong, grown exclusively in the certified organic villages of Haruno and Isagawa.

Excellent Reference Book!
Format: Paperback
I don't think this book was meant to be read cover to cover. If it is, the reader better start reading at an early age because there are over 1,000 pages and print is small. However, the book is an excellent reference and provides data that other similar books do not cover. It is a worthy investment.

The definitive reference
Format: Kindle
The definitive reference. It can be a bit hard to use if you're not up on the jargon, but it's an invaluable work if you are interested in the technical aspects of poetics.
