The music on Ruler's debut album - hook-heavy, assertive, inspiring - is made for motion. It's a soundtrack for moving forward, for getting better, in terms of both healing and self-improvement. Built on main man Matt Batey's lifelong fears, anxieties, addictions, and failures, not to mention his preternatural gift for creating instantly classic indie rock, these eleven songs follow that old adage by Robert Frost: The best way out is through. And in this case the best way through is with the volume cranked up all the way. No platitudes or love songs here - only raw interior monologue and deep character analysis. For most us, this stuff is hard to confront and even harder to articulate. Batey's lyrics are pointedly specific - so much so that they're immediately relatable. And they're set to soaring tunes that are beautifully and earnestly upbeat. Amid his brilliance and artistry, Batey exposes himself as one of us. That's his purpose and his gift, spelled out in Winning Star Champion's bold, beautiful songs: Life hurts, but it's great, and that's it.01. Petrified02. Winning Star Champion03. Cars And Houses04. A Book for our Times
Format: Kindle
This book has excellent advice for all Christians, as well as those not sure of what the Bible says. The passages, illustrations, scriptures are presented logically, Biblically, and hold much wisdom. I enjoyed the encouragement, practical steps that all can use.

Diverse Worship--Make A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord All Ye Lands
Format: Hardcover
I love this beautifully illustrated story. Children and adults, too, learn God's vision for His church—true worship. Author Dorena Williamson presents an image of a church no longer divided by race, culture, or style of worship. Instead, the church is a gathering of God's people celebrating who He is and all He has done. Also included are author notes suggesting ways to share the importance of embracing and celebrating God's diverse world with children.

We Are Better Together
Format: Hardcover
One Sunday morning when all the Sunday school classes landed in a heap for a multi-generational assembly followed by muffins, I read aloud from The Celebration Place, Dorena Williamson’s anthem to the Body of Christ gathered. How refreshing to share the truth that worship (and worshipers!) will look and participate differently in other places!
Here in rural Maine where a choir is as rare a sight as a brown face, Erin Bennett Banks’s vivid illustrations enriched the text, and I was pleased to hear adult chuckles accompanying the page about rappers “nodding to the beat” while “old folks stomp their feet.” Together, author and illustrator announce the church as “no longer a divided space. Now it’s a celebration place!”
With so many fractures in our world upon which we can distance and divide, the pursuit of unity in the Body of Christ is difficult but crucial. The work toward delightful diversity done today in God’s House is affirmation of the truth that we are better together, and it is preparation for the day when we will join with all nations God has made to glorify his name, for he is great and worthy of our celebration.
Many thanks to IVP Kids for providing a copy of this book to facilitate my review, which is, of course, offered freely and with honesty.

A message of unity
Format: Hardcover
The Celebration Place is a vibrant picture book highlighting diverse cultures and people worshipping God in a variety of glorious ways. This inclusive book portrays vocal artists, indigenous groups, and a person in a wheelchair in praise of a God whose presence reaches around the globe. The book’s message rings clear: when God’s people assemble in love, the church is a celebratory place. The back matter prompts further conversation. Children and their caregivers will want this important book in their hands and on their shelves. This honest review is based on an e-advanced reader copy from the author and publisher.
