Combining the bold tribal sensibility of Turkish Oushak weaving with the artistic spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement, this hand knotted wool rug carries remarkable visual confidence and handcrafted authenticity. Its strong geometric forms and saturated palette reflect the qualities that once captivated early twentieth century designers and collectors seeking decorative textiles with honesty, individuality, and expressive structure. The coral red field is organized around a loose diamond medallion composition accented by stylized sunburst motifs and scattered tribal figures rendered with deliberate irregularity. Abstract geometric devices populate the open field with movement and spontaneity, preserving the folk art character central to authentic tribal Oushak weaving. The striking teal and turquoise border introduces large scale abstract botanical and animal inspired forms that enhance the rug’s dramatic visual energy. Coral, teal, turquoise, navy, ivory, gold, and taupe tones interact beautifully throughout the thick wool pile, creating rich saturation and extraordinary depth. Hand knotted wool on a cotton foundation provides exceptional density and durability, while traditional ivory fringe completes the piece in authentic Oushak fashion.

The term Sarouk refers broadly to rugs woven throughout the Arak region and surrounding villages of central Iran, an area long celebrated for exceptional weaving traditions. During the nineteenth century, Sarouk rugs commonly featured intricate all over Herati and Gul Hennai patterns woven with fine asymmetrical knots on strong cotton foundations. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, local weavers began adopting more formal medallion based compositions influenced by the grandeur of Tabriz carpets. Following World War I, Sarouk artisans pioneered a more open decorative style featuring detached floral sprays floating elegantly across richly colored fields. This softer, spacious composition became the defining hallmark of the Sarouk tradition and gained enormous popularity throughout Western markets. Today, Sarouk inspired rugs continue to be woven in multiple countries while preserving the timeless Persian artistry, floral elegance, and decorative sophistication that made the tradition famous worldwide.
