Echo Bravo Fly Reel

The best saltwater fly reel under $150 on the market today. The Bravo brings serious saltwater performance to a price point that used to mean compromise. Carbon fiber disc drag, sealed against salt and grit, with about 10 pounds of stopping power in the 7/9 size. If you're heading to the flats for the first time, building a backup setup for your tarpon trip, or looking for an affordable big-game reel that won't fall apart after one season in the salt, this is it.

The PIT STOP Drag System

The heart of the Bravo is Echo's PIT STOP drag system — a sealed, saltwater-safe carbon fiber disc drag with tool-free access. The carbon fiber discs deliver smooth, powerful stopping power with low start-up inertia. Drag knob runs about 2.5 turns from minimum to maximum, which is perfect for dialing in pressure without hunting through endless detents. Reviewers measure approximately 10 pounds of maximum drag in the 7/9 size — enough to stop a permit, slow down a tarpon, and put serious pressure on any saltwater fish you're likely to hook.

The "PIT STOP" name nods to the tool-free access — you can pull the spool off, give the drag a freshwater rinse after a salt trip, and put it back together in under a minute. No tools, no torx bits, no parts to lose.

Saltwater-Safe Construction

The Bravo is precision cast from solid aluminum alloy with corrosion-resistant internals built to withstand the abuse of saltwater fishing. The matte black finish is utilitarian and tough — not flashy, but it doesn't need to be. A premium roller clutch bearing system delivers smooth, instantly-engaged drag, and the audible click on incoming and outgoing line lets you hear what's happening when a fish takes off across the flats.

Extra-Large Arbor with V-Spool

The Bravo features a V-shaped arbor design similar to the Redington Grande — generous backing capacity packed into a relatively compact footprint. Combined with the extra-large arbor, retrieve rate measures approximately 9 inches per turn, which is solid for any saltwater reel. You can pull line in fast when a fish runs at you, and you've got plenty of capacity to handle long runs without worrying about getting spooled.

Three Sizes for Big-Game Applications

The Bravo is available in three sizes covering 7 weight through 12 weight applications — bonefish and redfish on the small end, tarpon and big-game on the large end. The 7/9 also makes an excellent steelhead and salmon reel for big freshwater fish.

Why Anglers Choose the Echo Bravo

  • Best saltwater reel under $150 — full carbon fiber drag at one-third the price of premium reels
  • Sealed PIT STOP drag protects from salt and grit
  • Tool-free access for fast cleaning and maintenance after salt trips
  • ~10 lbs of max drag handles any flats species
  • V-spool design for generous backing capacity
  • Three sizes covering 7 weight through 12 weight applications
  • Precision-cast aluminum alloy stands up to abuse
  • Solid for novice and experienced saltwater anglers alike

Honest Notes

  • This is a cast aluminum reel, not CNC machined from billet. That's how Echo holds the price under $150. The trade-off: the finish wears more easily than premium reels, and it's heavier than a comparable machined reel.
  • Despite "saltwater-safe" marketing, you should still rinse the reel with fresh water after every saltwater day. The PIT STOP design makes this easy — pull the spool, rinse, dry, reassemble.
  • The Bravo is moderately heavy at 8.5 oz in the 7/9 size — heavier than premium machined options like the Lamson Litespeed (5.7 oz at $720), but lighter than reels in this price class typically run. If absolute lightweight is critical, look at the Litespeed or similar; if value is critical, the Bravo is hard to beat.
  • The 12-month limited warranty is shorter than premium reels, but reflects the price point. Take care of it and it'll last for many seasons.

Stop by Ed's Fly Shop at 432 E Main St in Montrose to handle the Echo Bravo in person, or shop the full Echo lineup online. Available in your choice of size above.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.
