Our plates are manufactured from high-carbon steel and heat treated.  When the clamping force of the hold-down hardware is utilized, it can deform a non-heat treated torque plate.  Torque used should be less than the final engine assembly torque to avoid using up a "crush cycle" on the bearings.  These Torque 'Hold-Down' plates are offered for use on the Continental 520 / 550 / 470 cubic inch engines .
