After years of living platonic with two female roommates and chasing after a succession of beautiful girls, Jack Tripper (John Ritter) finally finds his true love when he is smitten with flight attendant Vicky Bradford (Mary Cadorette).
In the last episode of the former sitcom, Jack proposes to Vicky, but Vicky doesn't believe in or want marriage. However, she prefers to live with Jack, so the two move in to an apartment above ‘Jack’s Bistro’, the restaurant co-owned by Jack and Vicky’s wealthy and straitlaced father, James (Robert Mandan) Bradford.
The fact that they are cohabiting and not married is a constant irritation to Vicky’s father, who would arrive unannounced as often as possible to disturb their extra-marital bliss. Thus...Three's a Crowd.
Beach bum E.Z. (Alan Campbell) was Jack’s eccentric assistant chef. Jessica Walter was seen occasionally as Vicky’s mother, Claudia.
