It keeps the piece from spinning around in the wind which is an issue for silhouette stakes that don't have this little fork!

2) The driving fork at the bottom will save you a lot of agony trying to plant it in the earth, especially if you have some hard soil. You simply step on it and your done, where as with other single stem stakes, you can bend up the silhouette just trying to push it in the ground.
