До доктора психологічних наук Свена Бесека у Німеччині звертається біженка з України на ім’я Людмила. Вона просить допомогти їй налагодити стосунки з шістнадцятирічним сином Марком, який разом зі своїм батьком мешкає у Швейцарії. Людмила розповідає про щасливе життя Марка з його татом, про їхні мандри світом, які описує з такою точністю, немов подорожує разом з ними. Вона говорить про щоденне спілкування з татом Марка через відеозв’язок, до якого Марк ніколи не долучається, бо сердиться на неї. Після кількох зустрічей з Людмилою у доктора Бесека виникають підозри щодо правдивості її слів, тому він їде спочатку до Швейцарії, де не знаходить ні Марка, ні його батька, а потім – до України. Там він дізнається, що будинок Людмили було повністю зруйновано російською ракетою під час нічного бомбардування міста, а Марк та Роман, які у момент прильоту ракети мали спати в будинку, безслідно зникли.
