The carnelian has been intricately carved with a rebus puzzle.

The ring appears to be a marriage of two earlier Georgian elements, brought together to create a unique and wearable piece of jewellery. Set within a simple 9 carat gold rubover setting is a beautifully carved oval carnelian stone, its warm orange red tone perfectly suited to the rich symbolism.

The carnelian has been intricately carved with a rebus puzzle. A playful and sentimental form of visual wordplay that was particularly popular in the Georgian period. The design features a bar of musical notation, followed by the words “De Mon”, and a love heart beneath. When read together, these elements form the poetic phrase “Music of my heart.”

Rebus jewellery was often exchanged as tokens of affection, allowing the wearer to carry a hidden or coded message of love. CONDITION: The ring is in lovely antique condition with a fine patina to the entire piece. There is a historical sizing at the back of the band and it has worn thin at the back.
