Tiger Goby – Valenciennea wardii

Overview:
The Tiger Goby is a sand-sifting goby recognized for its elongated body with horizontal tiger-like stripes. Like other Valenciennea species, it spends much of its time sifting sand through its gills, keeping the substrate clean while searching for small invertebrates. This natural cleaning ability makes it a highly desirable addition to reef aquariums.

Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, often found in sandy lagoons and reef flats where it forms burrows, sometimes in pairs.

Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and zooplankton in the wild. In captivity, it adapts to frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and sinking carnivore pellets. A well-established tank with a healthy sandbed is highly recommended to sustain natural feeding.

Tank Mates:
Peaceful and reef-safe. Best kept with non-aggressive fish, corals, and invertebrates. Can be kept in pairs if introduced at the same time. Avoid aggressive or predatory species.

Aggression:
Low. Generally docile, though it may defend its burrow from similar sand-sifting gobies in smaller aquariums.

Experience Level:
Intermediate. Requires a mature aquarium with a sandy substrate. Needs a secure lid, as it may jump when startled.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
  • pH: 8.1–8.4
  • Salinity: 1.020–1.025
  • Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons (larger is better for stable sand-beds)

The Tiger Goby (Valenciennea wardii) is both a functional sand cleaner and an attractive reef-safe species, perfect for aquarists seeking utility and beauty in their marine tank.

Works great for scent work! Bounce is great for air retrieve!
Size: 2-pack, Style: Duo, Size: 2-pack, Style: Duo
My dog doesn’t know he loves them yet but I do! They are a little softer so when we do air retrieve, I don’t have to worry as much about his teeth! I’m hoping he will learn to find them by smell vs sight. We often play in the evenings and he tends to loose his ball. Love chuck it! Right now, we have about 10 chuck it balls! The tennis balls don’t work for air retrieve! Chuckit does!!! Love the thrower too! Saves my arm!!!!

I guess the smell is offputting
Size: 2-pack, Style: Duo
My dog loves chocolate stuff. But for some reason, wasn’t a huge fan of these balls. She played with them a little bit, but they’re not her favorite.

So Far So Good
I adopted a young adult dog less than 2 weeks ago. She had spent over 12 hours a day in a crate and has excessive energy and anxiety built up. She is a strong chewer. So far, out of 6 toys, this is the only one still in one piece. It appears sturdy and extra bouncy. So much better than regular tennis balls.

My dogs favorite!
My dogs love these! They will play all day if you'd let them, these balls are their favorites. I use the chuck-it handle and they get tons of exercise in the big yard!

The Dog LOVES IT!
I bought this for my ex-wife's Pitbull. He is an aggressive chewer and usually destroys any toy I buy him. But not this one! The ball is small enough and pliable that it gives when he chomps on it. He loves this ball and seems to be his favorite toy. Thank you for making a product that he likes and can't destroy!
