About This Piece
A striking French silver-plated magnifying glass designed in the form of an English equestrian spur, combining sculptural appeal with practical function. In addition to its use as a hand magnifier, the substantial weight allows it to double beautifully as a desk paperweight.
The only other identical example I have encountered was an Hermès version, produced for the celebrated luxury house a different French silversmith. The maker of this example also maintained a professional relationship with luxury brand. While this example is not marked Hermès, it was crafted by a company associated with the production of high-end French desk accessories.

Provenance
French silver plate, Mid Century. Marked with the French maker’s punch for AVM (Ateliers du Val de Marne). Although AVM is best known for its mid-century modern lighting, silver-plated desk accessories, and decorative metalwork. Research indicates the company collaborated with Hermès, and was acquired by the brand. Acquired in Paris.
