In the distance beyond a number of 'arish huts occupied by Bani Yas villagers sit high up on a far sand dune. Beneath the settlement groves of date palms grow on the sand flat below. In the far distance sand dunes stretch out across the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
