APPLICATION
MG 405 is used in the repair of automotive parts, pipes, tanks, trailers, refrigeration equipment, aluminum castings and structural shapes (extrusions), bars and plates. MG 405 is compatible with most grades of aluminum.

PROCEDURES
Remove all foreign materials and surface oxides. Materials of 1/8 inch (3.25mm) or thicker should be pre-heated to 500°F (260°C) or more. Hold the electrode perpendicular to the work piece (approximately 90°) and maintain as short an arc as possible with a fast travel speed. Fill craters and restrike on the existing weld bead. Chip slag between passes and before quenching. For complete slag removal, use a wire brush and a hot water solution of 10% sulfuric acid. Rinse completely with clean, hot water.

To gain superior control over the weld puddle, use a stick welder with pulse welding capabilities (e.g., the HTP® Inverarc 200 TLP, the HTP® Invertig 221 AC/DC, the HTP® Pro Pulse™ 300). Also, to combat issues with welding aluminum, use a remote amperage control to adjust the amperage colder or hotter as you weld.
