A poignant piece of history. The originally dating to 1867, this ring is created in rich 15 carat gold, a typical and desirable standard of the period. The band is adorned with black enamel and the traditional mourning motto “In Memory Of”, a phrase commonly used to commemorate cherished family members who had passed.

At the centre sits an elegant oval banded agate, with the initials S and W. The initials of the original mourned loved one. Beneath the stone, on the reverse of the setting, lies an oval locket compartment containing the woven hair, beautifully preserved and untouched.

Adding to its history, the inside of the band bears a later inscription: “Helen Wright January 1883” This dedication was almost certainly added by a relative of the original mourned individual, extending the ring’s story into the next generation. Such additions are incredibly special. and show this ring continued to be cherished and worn. 

This is a moving example of Victorian remembrance jewellery, full of symbolism and sentiment. A meaningful piece for collectors of mourning jewels or anyone who values the rich emotional history these treasures carry.

Condition: The ring is in lovely antique condition and ready to wear. Much of the enamel around the shoulders has been lost with wear.
