Weingut Jordan ligt in Pulkau (Weinviertel, Niederösterreich) en kent een wijntraditie sinds 1858. Vandaag leiden Simone en Hannes Hiller‑Jordan het domein, met een duidelijke focus op terroir en precisie. De wijngaarden liggen op lössbodems (fijne, kalkrijke leemgrond), beïnvloed door het samenspel van koele Waldviertel‑winden en het warmere pannonische klimaat. Deze unieke combinatie zorgt voor wijnen met frisheid, rijpheid en duidelijke structuur.

Hoewel het Weinviertel bekend staat om witte wijn (vooral Grüner Veltliner), geldt Pulkau als een soort “rode wijn eiland”, waar ook Zweigelt, Merlot en St. Laurent bijzonder goed tot hun recht komen.

Met deze Merlot toont Weingut Jordan hoe goed internationale druiven zich aanpassen aan het terroir van Pulkau. Ook hier spelen de typische kenmerken van de regio een belangrijke rol in de optimale rijping en concentratie. 

Na de vinificatie rijpt de wijn gedurende langere tijd in meerjarige barriques, wat hem extra structuur, diepgang en verfijning geeft. In het glas presenteert hij zich met intense aroma’s van cassis, rijpe pruim en donker fruit, aangevuld met kruidige toetsen en subtiele florale accenten van viooltjes. De wijn is krachtig en vol, met rijpe, zijdezachte tannines. De houtopvoeding zorgt voor rondheid en lengte, zonder het fruit te overstemmen. Dit is een wijn met duidelijk meer gewicht en intensiteit binnen het gamma van Jordan, maar tegelijk mooi in balans en elegant uitgewerkt.

Perfect bij rundvlees, lamsgerechten en rijke stoofpotten. Combineert ook uitstekend met gerijpte kazen. Verrassend goed bij donkere, chocoladeachtige desserts.
