Deze Zuilvormige sierappel Malus 'Golden Hornet' beveerd krijgt gele sierappeltjes die de hele winter aan dit boompje blijven hangen. Dit zorgt voor een mooi winterbeeld. Deze sierheesters / boompjes worden in zuilvorm 4-6 meter hoog.

Blad en bloem 

De Nederlandse naam is Sierappel. Behoort tot de familie van de Rosaceae. De bloemen van deze appelboom zijn wit en bloeien van mei. De bladeren zijn groen. De volwassen hoogte van dit halfstammige boompje is de stamhoogte + circa 50 cm. Deze appelboom verdraagt een temperatuur tot -20 graden Celsius. Deze halfstam variant neemt plek in en is dan ook geschikt voor kleine borders. 

Aanplanting, waar in de tuin?

Deze appelboom slaat vrij traag aan in de tuin. De Sierappel vraagt een vochthoudende tot vochtige, humusrijke grond met een neutrale tot basische zuurgraad (pH = 7 - 9). Een appelboom in de tuin staat graag in een plekje in de zon of lichte schaduw. Bij voorkeur uit de middagzon.

In borders combineren met...

Deze tuinplant is in haar jonge jaren eenvoudig met allerlei vaste planten te combineren. Denk aan vaste planten als Kattenkruid 'Nepeta', Lavendel, Ooievaarsbek 'Geranium' (de lage of middelhoge cultivars zoals Biokovo), Gele Zonnehoed 'Rudbeckia' en siergrassen als Vedergras 'Stipa', Zegge 'Carex' en Lampenpoetsersgras 'Pennisetum'. Maak speelse groepjes van steeds 5-9 stuks vaste planten of grassen. Alle genoemde soorten zijn te koop in onze webshop en bezorgen wij in 3-5 werkdagen bij u.

Leuk om te weten

Zoals de naam al aangeeft, zijn de vruchten van deze appelboom meer voor de sier dan om te eten. De appels van deze appelboom in uw tuin zijn namelijk niet heel lekker.

De vruchten zijn niet erg lekker om te eten. Wel zijn ze heel mooi om te zien en blijven ze lang aan de boom hangen. Veel dieren zijn dol op deze vruchten!
