Gebruik
Shoyu en Tamari zijn smaakversterkers, de gezonde en vloeibare tegenhangers van het bouillonblokje. Ze passen even goed in de westerse als in de oosterse keuken. Gebruik ze niet alleen om gerechten te zouten, maar ook om de natuurlijke smaak van de ingrediënten te versterken, tijdens het koken en aan tafel. De typerende smaak van Shoyu is het resultaat van aanwezige aromatische componenten die gedurende de fermentatie gevormd worden. Deze zijn temperatuurgevoelig. Daarom is Shoyu niet bestand tegen een langdurige verwarming, en mag het dus pas aan het einde van het kookproces toegevoegd worden, zodat de smaak niet verloren gaat. Shoyu laat zich perfect combineren met pickles, wokgerechten, rijst, noedels, veggie sushi, sashimi of gestoomde groenten, met mirin (rijstwijn), wasabi, gember of geraspte daikon.

Excellent resource for defending why Christianity is not rooted in mythology

I bought this book as required reading for an introductory Old Testament class I was taking in seminary. Sad to say, the textbook mostly collects dust. To this day, I use Oswalt's book for reference and continue to recommend the reading of it to others.
I do not believe one can fully defend the Christian faith without first knowing how firmly convinced some scholars and historians are that Christianity is rooted in mythology. I will not lie. If you read about some of these myths in a silo, you may find yourself leaning toward such false beliefs. When you take a step back and consider the time in history in which the Old Testament was written, the picture becomes more clear.
In the introduction to the Old Testament class, we also read Ancient Near Eastern Thought and the Old Testament by John H. Walton. Again, the text book is mostly collecting dust, I also repeatedly use this one as a reference. I would strongly recommend reading both books. The second is more academic in style than the first, but it helps lend further context.

An inspiring take on the story of the Bible and reality.

This was an absolute pleasure to read. Oswalt utilizes his knowledge of ancient near east culture and religion to thorough debunk any effort to one might make to pretend that the Bible is of a similar mythology.

Is the Bible Really Unique?
Format: Kindle
Oswalt takes up the question of the uniqueness of the Christian Bible by focusing on the Old Testament (which is also the holy book of the Jews) and its similarities and differences to the myths of the periods in which it was put together. His comparison and contrast make for very interesting reading. He allows the two world views to stand alone, allowing the reader to understand his conclusions without forcing him/her to agree with the author. In reading this book, I also began to notice some very interesting parallels between the ancient worldview of "continuity" (versus the biblical view that Oswalt calls "transcendence") and some modern views being espoused in the Western world. Definitely worth a read whether or not you agree with him. It will help broaden your view both of your view and of the other side's view.

Good Core Content but I won't read it again

This book makes a strong stand for the position that the Bible does not fit within the genre of myth. That is the positive aspects of this work. However, this book at times seems somewhat philosophical, it can be hard to follow the author's logic, and it does not adequately cover one of the most fundamental questions the author poses. For example, the question of whether the theology of the Bible should receive special credence if the historical basis it rests on is found to be incorrect is asked, but the answer given is short and does not fully interact with the question which I found to be very disappointing.
