BONGO FURY wordt 50! De klassieke samenwerking tussen Frank Zappa en Captain Beefheart in mei 1975 leidde tot een golf van nieuwe composities, een tournee en uiteindelijk een album. Bongo Fury bestaat grotendeels uit live-opnames vanuit de Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin (Texas), aangevuld met enkele studio-opnames uit The Record Plant in Los Angeles. Het album is een gedenkwaardige toevoeging aan de Zappa-catalogus en het laatste wapenfeit onder de bandnaam "Mothers" voordat deze in 1976 verdween.

Deze nieuwe 50th Anniversary Edition bevat een volledig analoge mastering van het hoofdalbum door Bernie Grundman op 180 grams zwart vinyl, rechtstreeks van de originele mastertapes. De set bevat ook een bonusplaat met hoogtepunten uit de 6-disc boxset, een lithografie, en een boekje met nooit eerder vertoonde foto's en toelichtingen van bandlid Denny Walley en Vaultmeister Joe Travers.
