De Equestrian Print Silk Twill Tie van Polo Ralph Lauren is custom-geweven bij Mantero, de zijdeweverij in Como die al generaties lang werkt voor de internationale haute couture en tailoring-industrie. Het groene fond draagt een all-over equestrian print met ruitermotieven in rood en goud — een directe verwijzing naar de atletische club-esthetiek die Ralph Lauren al meer dan vijftig jaar als rode draad gebruikt. De das is van 100% zijden twill, met de hand gesneden op een exacte 45-graden bias zodat hij altijd recht hangt en nooit draait. Breedte 8,9 cm, lengte 150 cm, met Polo-logo's op de achterkant van het smalle blad. Gemaakt in Italië, uitsluitend droogkuis of spotkuis.

Een stropdas past op één manier: de punt eindigt bij de broeksband, de brede kant dekt het smalle deel aan de achterkant. De breedte van 8,9 cm past bij een moderne tot klassieke revers — breed genoeg voor een klassiek pak, smal genoeg om niet gedateerd over te komen. Het zijden twill heeft voldoende gewicht om de das goed te laten vallen zonder te zwaar te zijn; hij blijft de hele dag hangen zonder te verspringen. Stropdassen zijn geen maatartikel maar passen bij nagenoeg alle hals- en paksneden.

Draag deze Polo Ralph Lauren das op een wit of lichtblauw oxford-overhemd onder een marineblauw of donkergroen pak — het groene fond legt het kleuraccord met het pak en het equestrian-motief voegt karakter toe zonder af te leiden. Het is een das die men ziet zonder hem te benoemen.

Polo Ralph Lauren werd in 1967 in New York opgericht. De eerste collectie bestond volledig uit stropdassen; de das is dus niet zomaar een accessoire maar het begin van alles waar Ralph Lauren om staat.
