Het oude Chateau La Nerthe

Chateau La Nerthe is een van de oudste en grootste landgoederen van Chateauneuf du Pape en strekt zich uit over 90 hectare rond het kasteel. Alleen dat is al uniek in Chateauneuf. De wijngaarden zijn ontstaan in de 14e eeuw toen de wijnbouw zich over het gebied verspreidde. Het kasteel zelf werd in de 18e eeuw gebouwd en verschillende eigenaren hebben aan het roer gestaan en zijn verantwoordelijk voor het grote succes van dit wijnhuis. Het terroir bestaat uit 15 verschillende bodemsoorten en de wijnen kenmerken zich stuk voor stuk door elegantie en frisheid. De druiven worden relatief vroeg geoogst waardoor de wijnen lekker fris en fruitig zijn.

12 maanden houtlagering voor Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape Rood

De vinificatie wordt volledig volgens traditie uitgevoerd. De druiven worden stuk voor stuk met de hand geoogst en op de sorteertafels in de wijnmakerij gesorteerd. Want alleen het beste van het beste is goed genoeg. Daarop volgt de fermentatie in vaten voor de duur van 18 tot 21 dagen, waarbij de dop regelmatig wordt ondergedompeld. Tussentijds wordt er regelmatig geproefd om te zorgen dat de kwaliteit goed is. Na malolactische gisting in eikenhouten vaten rijpt deze Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 12 maanden op eikenhouten vaten. Deze La Nerthe heeft een mooie dieprode kleur en aroma’s van zwarte bessen, zwarte thee en gedroogde bloemen. Hij heeft een volle fruitige smaak met een grote body. Hij heeft een pure en intens karakter. De zuurgraad is mooi in balans en hij finisht in een lange aangename afdronk.

Absolutely Not Nonsense
Format: Hardcover
At first glance, this book might be mistaken for "Chariots of the Gods" hokum -- it's about pyramids, it suggest prehistoric connections between widely scattered civilizations, and it has an entire chapter on planetary catastrophes. However, this is a very serious effort. Granted, it raises a lot more questions than it answers, and can be a little monotonous in spots. But as a former geology major, I didn't spot any pseudo-science (which is not surprising, given that the primary author has a Ph.D. in Geology from Yale) and I found much food for thought. Sure, if it turns out that the whole theory of cultural diffusion is wrong, (similarities in disparate civilizations are due to migration and interconnection rather than parallel developoment) this book will be little more than an amusing footnote in the history of science. But then, plate tectonics was once a crackpot theory. This is a serious book that deserves to be read.
