Onderscheidende wijnen van Anselmo Mendes

Het werk van Anselmo Mendes wordt in Portugal en in het buitenland erkend. Niet alleen vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van de wijnen, maar ook voor de verassende manier van wijnmaken en waarop hij innoveert. De vergisting van Alvarinho druiven in houten vaten of het gebruik van traditionele vinificatietechnieken, zoals gisting op schillen, zijn slechts enkele van de methoden die deze wijnen onderscheiden in de wereld van witte wijnen.

De vinificatie van Anselmo Mendes Muros Antigos Loureiro

Het is geen geheim dat de Alvarinho druif een grote passie voor Anselmo Mendes is. Maar de wijnregio Vinho Verde heeft natuurlijk veel meer prachtige andere druiven te bieden. Neem nou de heerlijke Loureiro. Deze druifsoort doet het vooral goed in het middelste deel van de streek, in de omgeving van Braga. Dit gebied staat meer onder de invloed van de Atlantische oceaan en onder deze omstandigheden doet deze Loureiro het perfect. Dit is dan ook precies de plek waar Anselmo Mendes deze druiven vandaan haalt. Deze Loureiro komt uit het dal van de rivier de Lima, wat volgens kenners de beste plek schijnt te zijn. De druiven ondergaan na de oogst een korte inweking op de schillen. Hierdoor krijgt de wijn meer aroma. Vervolgens volgt er een gisting op lage temperatuur plaats om hem mooi fruit te geven. Tot slot rijpt de wijn op de fijne lie voor minimaal vier maanden. Anselmo Mendes weet in de wijn een prachtige geur te brengen van citrus geuren, gemaaid gras en bloemen. Maar ook wat kalk tinten is te ontdekken. De smaak is wat we van Mendes zijn gewend, fraai en veel beleving!
