The Marshall Mathers LP 2 werd beschouwd als een van de meest verwachte albums van het jaar. Het album werd onthuld tijdens de MTV Video Music Awards 2013 in augustus, samen met een preview van de eerste single “Berzerk”. De volgende twee singles waren ‘Survival’ en “Rap God”. “The Monster” (met Rihanna) werd uitgebracht als de vierde single van het album en bereikte de eerste plaats in de Billboard Hot 100. De vijfde single van het album, “Headlights” (met Ruess), werd uitgebracht in 2014.
