Volnay ligt tussen Pommard en Meursault, ingebed in de glooiende heuvels van de Côte de Beaune. De appellatie staat bekend om haar elegante rode wijnen, gemaakt van Pinot Noir. De wijngaarden van Volnay beslaan 210 hectare, waarvan 115 hectare zijn geklasseerd als Premier Cru, verspreid over 26 climats. Daarnaast zijn er nog 21 hectare Premier Cru van Meursault die als Volnay-Santenots worden geclassificeerd.

Al in de 16e eeuw waren de wijnen van Volnay geliefd bij het Franse hof. In 1477, na de dood van Karel de Stoute, liet koning Lodewijk XI de volledige oogst van Volnay in beslag nemen voor zijn persoonlijke kelder in Plessis-lès-Tours.

Clos des Chênes, genoemd naar de eikenbossen die er ooit groeiden, is de grootste Premier Cru van Volnay. De wijngaard ligt hoog op de helling, waar de kalkrijke bodem (met tot 50% calcium) zorgt voor verfijnde, elegante wijnen.

Domaine Latour-Giraud bezit hier een zorgvuldig beheerd perceel van 26 are. Dankzij de klei in deze zone krijgt de wijn extra structuur en diepgang, terwijl het elegante karakter van Volnay behouden blijft. Het resultaat is een verfijnde en evenwichtige wijn met een zijdezachte textuur, fijne houttoetsen en een charmant, bloemig aroma.
