Zaccagnini werd in 1970 opgericht door Mario Zaccagnini. Een man van weinig woorden, die altijd spaarzaam glimlachte, maar begiftigd was met een groot gevoel en liefde voor de natuur. In die jaren kocht Mario het eerste land in het district Salmàgina, in Staffolo, in het centraal-oostelijke deel van Le Marche, 20 km van de Adriatische Zee.
