België kent een lange geschiedenis in de rietsuikerproductie. Het waren de Kruisvaarders die tijdens hun tochten in de 11de eeuw als eersten in contact kwamen met de suikerrietplant (Saccharum officinarum). Vanaf de 14de eeuw werd suikerriet naar België getransporteerd. Antwerpen was de belangrijkste haven (cfr. de Suikerrui in Antwerpen) en op een gegeven moment kende de stad meer dan 15 suikerfabrieken. Antwerpen bleef tot het einde van de 17de eeuw het belangrijkste suiker producerende centrum van de wereld.

Tijdens de 19de en 20ste eeuw telde Belgisch-Congo vele suikerrietplantages. Suikerriet werd vanuit Congo naar België gebracht, waar het dan werd verwerkt tot rietsuiker en het bijproduct melasse, zoals bijvoorbeeld in de suikerfabriek van Moerbeke. Eén van de dorpen in Belgisch-Congo kreeg hierdoor zelfs de naam Moerbeke.

Rum werd uitgevonden rond 1650 in West-Europa, toen men ontdekte dat het bijproduct melasse kon vergist worden.  Rum was gedurende lange tijd de favoriete drank van zeelui en soldaten; water was vaak bezoedeld en het bier van vroeger werd al snel zuur tijdens de lange reizen. Men was overtuigd dat rum vele kwalen en smarten kon genezen. Heden wordt rum vooral geproduceerd in landen waar suikerriet wordt geteeld.

Het recept van Sas Distilleries is gebaseerd op een Franstalig recept uit het begin van de 19de eeuw. Eerst wordt de melasse in vergisting gezet en na afloop van dit proces gedistilleerd. Vervolgens wordt het distillaat kort gerijpt op nieuwe Franse eik (Golden Rum) of gebrande Franse eik (Dark Rum).

Charlesville was de naam van het schip dat goederen en personen vervoerde tussen Belgisch Congo en België. Charlesville is nu de naam van de Golden en Dark rum van Sas Distilleries.

I could tell right away that this razor was designed with women in mind. It petite enough to fit in curves, but not so small that you spend all day grooming. It truly is painless as advertised. The shave quality was close and baby smooth with zero skin irritation. It functions exactly as advertised and the battery life was excellent. Truth be told, it's winter so it's been a while since I last shaved my legs. I needed the extended time. Having both a trimmer and razor in one tool is fantastic value and time saver. Clean up was simple. I'm happy to finally have a women's razor that works as it should.
