On June 4, 2004, Marvin Heemeyer—muffler man, welder, and owner of Mountain View Muffler in Granby, Colorado—reached his breaking point. After a long, bitter conflict with local officials over zoning and property disputes, Marvin didn’t roll over. He rolled out.
In a modified Komatsu D355A bulldozer reinforced with steel and armed with months of meticulous planning, Heemeyer etched his name into American folklore. Town hall. The newspaper office. Granby’s power structure—flattened in a single, surreal afternoon. The machine became legend. The man became myth. The grievances? Still up for debate.
