The Hotel West End was the first hotel to be built on the Promenade des Anglais in 1842, beginning the architectural movement of the Belle Epoque on the French Riviera. It was originally called the Victoria Hotel, then the Hotel Rome before becoming the West End Hotel in 1885. The promenade was first called Camin deis Anglais (the English way).
