Discover the beauty of Balzac's brilliance with 'Lost Illusions', a newly annotated translation of one of the defining works within the illustrious Comédie Humaine. Dive into the heart of 19th-century France, where artistic idealism clashes with the stark realities of a changing society. This captivating trade paperback, published by the reputable University of Minnesota Press in 2020, reintroduces readers to the tumultuous journey of Lucien de Rubempré, a gifted poet trapped between his lofty aspirations and the corrupt urban landscape of Paris.

With rich narratives and complex character dynamics, 'Lost Illusions' brilliantly depicts the profound themes of poverty, the commodification of art, and the ruthless nature of journalistic ambition. Raymond N. MacKenzie's expert translation brings fresh life to Balzac's fervent prose, ensuring that both new readers and seasoned fans experience the full depth of its emotional and societal critiques.

Engage with Balzac’s vision of Paris as a microcosm of cultural decay, where ambition is thwarted by moral ambiguity. Whether you’re exploring the intersections of art and society or simply seeking a compelling read, this essential work of literature offers a window into the soul of a generation caught in the throes of modernity. Embrace the transformative power of this enduring narrative and let 'Lost Illusions' challenge your perceptions of idealism and integrity in an ever-evolving world. Perfect for enthusiasts of French literature and historical fiction alike.

Classic Kids Book
Format: Board book
The Rainbow Fish is one of those children’s books that has been around forever for a reason. The story is sweet and the illustrations are beautiful. It is a great book to read with kids and one that seems to stick around in family libraries for years.

Great illustrations but not sure about the story
Format: Board book
My toddler is obsessed with all things fish, so when she picked out The Rainbow Fish from Amazon search. The illustrations are gorgeous, and my daughter is mesmerized by the sparkly, foil-like scales on the fish. She keeps pointing at them every time we read it, and it’s become a bedtime favorite just for the shiny colors! One thing I found a little odd is the story: the Rainbow Fish gives away all her beautiful scales to make friends. It’s a sweet message about sharing, but as a parent I admit it made me scratch my head a bit (I wasn’t sure if my toddler really gets why the fish parts with all her sparkles). Still, it’s a friendly tale and we enjoy reading it together.

The Good Democracy is at Risk
Format: Kindle
This is as close to a page-turner as a prosecutor's brief can get. No words are wasted as the author describes how Donald Trump and his minions have used their raw power to lay waste to the "good" that is the beating heart of American democracy, putting democracy itself at risk. Only the people can fix it. Abuelo

Sweet, Simple, and Full of Love🙌🏽❤️
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I Love Dad” is such a precious little book, especially if you’re a fan of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It keeps that same classic Eric Carle charm—bright, colorful illustrations and a sweet, simple message that really tugs at your heart. It’s the perfect way for little ones to express love for Dad in a fun and meaningful way. My daughter loved pointing out the animals and colors, and it’s become one of our go-to bedtime reads. 🥹 The wording is short and sweet, it’s easy for toddlers to understand, and perfect for new readers to follow along. It also makes such a thoughtful gift for Father’s Day, a baby shower, or just because. If you’re looking for a feel-good story that celebrates dads with love and playfulness, this book is a total gem. 💙📖
