Restored, period frame bears suppliers label: Nelson DeClark of New York City. British, born in 1857, Thornley was a painter in oil of marine and coastal scenes. He exhibited at major London Galleries from 1883. His earlier works are signed Thornberry or Thornbury and later Thornley. He lived in Rochester in Kent, and painted on both the East and South coasts of England. England, c. 1880
