It became available for pre-order on September 12, and will become available in store on September 22, 2023 in five colors: blue, pink, yellow, green and black.
Industry reports indicate that Apple will be including the Dynamic Island in all models of this generation's lineup, with the front-facing camera package being provided by several manufacturers. Leaked CAD data intended for case manufacturers indicate that the new phones will be approximately the same size as the previous year's models, but refined with more curved edges and a slightly thicker "camera bump" with lens that protrude slightly less. The Pro model screens are reported to have a narrower bezel boundary between the displayed picture and case edge.
In May 2023, dummies of the iPhone 15 model lineup for case manufacturers began appearing. The models are expected to migrate from Lightning to USB-C ports to comply with regulations from the European Union. The Pro models are reported to be receiving an implementation of USB 3.2 for faster data transfer speeds.
The buttons were thought to have been changed from an electro-mechanical to purely solid-state design, with an updated haptic engine providing button press sensations. However, this feature may be delayed to a subsequent year due to manufacturing complexity issues regarding haptics.
