The beauty of these handmade pieces goes far beyond their quality, style, and comfort—they open doors of opportunity for girls and women in East Africa.
Her Best Foot Forward began with a chance meeting between two women in a Tanzanian marketplace: a humanitarian and a Maasai beading artisan. From that encounter grew a partnership committed to ethically made goods that fuel meaningful social change.
Every product supports this mission. One hundred percent of net proceeds go directly to the artisans, their families, and the social enterprise UhuruPads—East Africa’s first compostable sanitary pad initiative. Thirteen women are employed in the UhuruPads workshop, producing pads that are distributed with health and hygiene education to girls in local government schools. More than 5,000 students currently benefit from this program, gaining the confidence and support they need to stay in school.
The beading artisans work collaboratively in a safe, clean space and are paid above local standards for their craft. Their workshop is known regionally for its excellence, and each woman has the freedom to use her earnings as she chooses.
