If you are looking for a stunning and unique addition to your plant collection, then look no further than the Mexican lily, also known as Beschorneria yuccoides 'Flamingo Glow.' Native to Mexico, this lily plant is prized for its dramatic foliage and striking flamingo flowers.

This Mexican lily plant features variegated leaves that are green with a pinkish-red tinge, giving it a unique and eye-catching appearance. These leaves grow up to 3 feet long and are slightly curved, which resemble those of a yuccaGo to search?type=product&q=yucca plant. In the spring, this lily plant produces tall spikes of pinkish-red flamingo flowers with prominent red bracts that are held high above the foliage, adding a burst of color to the garden.

The Mexican lily is a hardy and low-maintenance plant that is perfect for adding a touch of tropical flair to your garden or patio. The Mexican lilies are not considered toxic to humans or pets. It is also deer-resistant, making it an excellent choice for gardens where deer are a problem. It can be propagated easily through division or seed. It is a great choice for adding height and texture to your garden and looks especially beautiful when planted in groups or as a specimen plant.

Watering Needs

Beschorneria yuccoides 'Flamingo Glow' is a drought-tolerant plant that prefers infrequent watering. It is important to allow the soil to dry out between waterings, as overwatering can lead this flamingo flowering plant to root rot and other problems. During the growing season, water it once in 2-3 weeks when the soil is dry to the touch. In the winter, when the Mexican lily is dormant, reduce watering to once a month or when the soil is completely dry.

When watering, be sure to water deeply, allowing the water to soak into the soil and reach the roots. Avoid getting water on the leaves, as this can lead to fungal problems. If you are growing 'Flamingo Glow' in a container, be sure that the pot has drainage holes to allow excess water to escape.

Light Requirements

The Mexican lily prefers full sun to partial shade. It is important to provide it with some shade during the hottest part of the day, as too much direct sun can scorch the leaves. In areas with very hot summers, it may be best to provide some afternoon shade to protect this Mexican lily plant from the intense heat.

When choosing a location for Mexican lily, look for a spot that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. If you are growing this in a container, be sure to move it to a shady spot during the hottest part of the day to protect it from the sun. If you are growing these Mexican lilies indoors, be sure to place them in a bright, sunny window where they will receive plenty of light.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

Beschorneria yuccoides prefers well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. A soil mix that contains equal parts of sand, peat moss, and perlite is ideal for these Mexican lilies. If you are growing 'Flamingo Glow' in a container, be sure to use a potting mix that is specifically formulated for succulents. So, here at Planet Desert, we have specialized succulents potting soilGo to soil-cactus-mix-blend-1-gal-4-qt-cacti-succulent-dirt-compost-growing-media that includes an organic substrate with mycorrhizae to help with the growth of a healthy root system.

When it comes to fertilizer, the Mexican lily is a light feeder that does not require a lot of nutrients. A slow-release fertilizer that is low in nitrogen and high in phosphorus and potassium is ideal for this plant. Fertilize once a year in the spring, when new growth begins to emerge.

Hardiness Zones & More

The Mexican lily is hardy in USDA hardiness zones 6 to 11. It can tolerate temperatures as low as 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit but prefers temperatures between 35 degrees Fahrenheit. In areas with very cold winters, it is important to protect these Mexican lilies from frost and freezing temperatures, as these cannot withstand frost for long periods.

When it comes to humidity, flamingo flower care includes dry to medium humidity levels. It can tolerate some humidity, but high humidity can lead to fungal problems and other issues. If you live in a humid climate, make sure to provide adequate air circulation around the succulent to keep the leaves dry.

Unusual, unique look for cheap.
In most ways, this is simply an inexpensive Chinese quartz watch. As a watch collector, it's simply not the kind of thing I would be interested in. But, it is unusual in good ways. It's all stainless and the case is 39mm while the lug width is 20mm which is pretty normal for a dress watch. It's powered by a Japanese quartz movement giving three hands with day/date. As one can expect at this price, the crystal is mineral glass. The bracelet is a solid link type with a butterfly clasp. I really don't like butterfly clasps but that's just me, it works okay. It has 30m water resistance. Crown is push-pull. Pretty standard stuff. Then, the uniqueness drops on you! The crystal is faceted on the outside and the light really plays on it, especially with the sunray blue dial behind that! The dial is a combination of Roman numerals in gold on the even numbers and faux diamonds at the odd hour positions. It rides the edge of gaudy without going over IMO. The bezel has scallops which also reflect light as it moves. The case is all polish. The bracelet is just as unique. It is a little loose - jingly jangly as some pretty famous brands are. The bracelet is a combination of stainless and gold tone. The individual links are very well articulated and one row of the inner sections of the bracelet actually scalloped with a curve upwards at the ends - the opposite of what you'd expect but somehow it works and the unique touches all come together. I'm not saying this is a great watch for watch collectors. But, if you're looking for a cheap dress watch that won't look like anyone else's and still has decent specs this is worth a look!

Great watch, looks good
I was worried about the watch looking too bulky and thick. It looks just right on my wrist and I have a 7 inch wrist. 10/10 watch, looks epic and was just what I wanted. Not too thick, not too thin, fits my needs perfectly.

good watch, great price, mediocre band
Accurate? Great price? it's a Casio! Not the best looker, but darn easy to read. This is a stepping stone to an "easy reader" watch, with clear numbers on a high contrast background. Easy to set, this model is a good choice for traveling back and forth across time zones. The big drawback (and likely the reason I was able to buy this watch as a return) is the watchband, which has 3 faults. The hasp is old school and it can be hard to open and close except when it opens unexpectedly. The corners of the links are not rounded, so they can bite into your wrist. And adjusting the size of the band is a PITA. All in all, I'm on the lookout for a replacement band. [I have absurdly large wrists, but still needed to remove two links. Use a super small bladed screwdriver on the band and a paperclip for the springbar at the hasp. Open the band at the hasp, find and press down on bits of spring steel until you can slide them out of the watchband, remove links, reassemble the band. I'm reasonably handy but took 10+ minutes for the task.]
