Diana Bridge’s subjects are reflected through a range of cultural lenses. To engagement with Western and New Zealand literature should be added her immersion in the great Asian cultures of China and India. Her poetry is an intricate meshing of realities and possesses a remarkable depth and richness of perspective. These are poised, elegantly wrought poems, full of lively intelligence and verbal deftness. Since Baxter, most New Zealand poets have shied away from the use of myth in their poetry. In this collection, Bridge mines this vein for its deeply traditional and personal resonances. She knows, as firmly as did Jung, that â€myths give us pictures for our emotions’. Here, the poems that openly glance off myth are brief, fresh takes that centre on the heroines of Western Classical legend. They begin in an irony that is needed to cope with the sometimes shocking stories, then range through time to alight with radical brevity on Shakespeare and English history. The refrain of the past narrows down to the notion of the family, No one of us today is of the House of Atreus – Just meet the Family, I say. The book concludes with â€The Way a Stone Falls’, 22 poems set in Southeast Asia. The sequence takes on board the Cambodian tragedy of last century by way of headless statues – taking a sideswipe at French colonialism. It confronts the hardest decision in the whole Hindu tradition, that of Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. This is how Bridge finds her way in the world – a place of trees and people and noise and contingency – with the assurance that myth tells her story as well as its own.

A Great Buy - But Might Be Too Long
Special Size: Low Stretch, Size: 34W x 32L, Color: Dark Midnight Wash
These jeans are an excellent buy! I have only bought Eddie Bauer jeans for the last 25 years, but this time I couldn't find my size in the correct style. I prefer classic/relaxed in dark blue. I don't like the "pre-washed" or worn look. The Dark Midnight Wash was exactly what I wanted - new jeans. The waist measurement was perfect. Unfortunately, the 32 length was waaay too long. (All the Eddie Bauers were 34x32). So I just did an exchange for a 34x30, which should be good. Eventhough the length was too long, I'm still giving 5 stars. Different manufacturers cut sizes differently. It is what it is. And the return process was EZ and the replacement size was in stock. Seriously, there is really no quality difference between these Amazon Essential jeans and my old $60 E.B.s No one sees the label anyway!

Weird sizing, snug in some places and much more “relaxed” in others
Special Size: Rigid, Size: 33W x 28L, Color: Black
Comfortable and close fit around waist, buttocks, crotch - but from thigh down trouser cuff it’s a VERY relaxed fit, much bigger than I need even with thick muscular legs. Not quite clown pants or bell bottoms, but a still a strange look. I’ll probably be sending them back.

Would buy again
Size: 36W x 34L, Color: Tinted Light Wash
These blue jeans are comfortable, fit as expected, and are suitable for everyday wear. The material feels durable without being too stiff, and they hold their shape well after washing. The color is true to the listing photos and hasn’t faded so far.
Material is comfortable and not too thick, and stretch level is minimal.
They’re not premium designer jeans, but for the price, the quality is solid and they get the job done. I would recommend these if you’re looking for affordable, reliable jeans for casual or work use.
