Not All Vitamin D Is Created Equal

Vitamin D is crucial for your immune system, bone health, and even mood and cognition. Surprisingly, most Americans are deficient in the total body-health supporter — don’t be one of them.

Vitamin D Benefits

Vitamin D is needed at every level for whole-body health. In fact, every single type of tissue in your body has receptors for Vitamin D. Your bones, heart, brain, muscles, immune system, you name it, all require sufficient Vitamin D to function optimally. Vitamin D is also the only vitamin that also functions as a hormone in the body, making it even more important to be sure you are not deficient or insufficient in this all-important micronutrient.

Vitamin D Deficiency Is More Common Than You Think

Vitamin D deficiency is unfortunately all too common… According to a 2011 study, 41.6% of adults in the United States are deficient in Vitamin D, easily making this one of the most common nutrient deficiencies in the United States. The % of those deficient goes up to 69.2% in Hispanics and 82.1% in African-Americans. This is due to the fact that those of us with darker skin absorb less UV light from the sun, making Vitamin D synthesis more difficult, making Vitamin D supplementation even more important in these populations.

Vitamin D Triage Theory

Have you heard of the ‘Vitamin D triage theory’? This theory states that while Vitamin D3 is essential to almost every single aspect of whole-body health, it can ONLY support all of these areas of our well-being if we have enough. When Vitamin D is deficient, or even suboptimal, it will ONLY play a role in its most basic life-supporting functions, such as regulating calcium levels in the bloodstream. Its role in immune function, neurotransmitter balance, genetic expression, and more, will be slowed or stopped completely until Vitamin D3 is brought back up to optimal levels!

Vitamin D deficiency is easy and inexpensive to tackle! While it’s entirely clear that Vitamin D deficiency runs rampant in the United States, and throughout the world, the good news is that Vitamin D deficiency is easy to treat. Supplementation with the right kind of Vitamin D, and at the right dose, has been shown to quickly turnaround insufficiencies quickly and easily in most people.

Vitamin D3/K2 Facilitates Calcium Absorption

My Vitamin D3/K2 formula is essential for calcium absorption and bone health. Vitamin D facilitates calcium absorption from the GI tract into the bloodstream and thus plays an important role in maintaining bone density. Once Calcium is absorbed, Vitamin K helps transport calcium from the bloodstream into the bone. Together these two vitamins help maintain appropriate calcium skeletal distribution. Calcium is critical for optimal bone density as well as normal growth.

Vitamin D supports neurological health and a positive mood! Often called the ‘sunshine vitamin’, Vitamin D3 plays a unique role in helping to regulate neurotransmitter balance in the brain, and therefore, mood and outlook. Due to its function in regulating serotonin and dopamine production and release in certain regions in the brain, Vitamin D plays a big role in helping to support and maintain a positive and happy mood.

Vitamin K2: The Bone Health Super Sidekick†

Vitamin K2’s role in supporting bone & cardiovascular health is crucial. We all know that calcium is critical for our overall health, especially that of our bones. One important fact you may not be aware of, is that calcium needs support from Vitamin K2 to actually make its way from your bloodstream into your bones.† By ferrying excess calcium from the bloodstream into the bone, Vitamin K2 helps maintain both cardiovascular AND bone health through ensuring that calcium goes where it is needed!

Vitamin D is Crucial for Immune Function

Vitamin D3 is essential for supporting healthy immune system function. If you’re finding yourself under the weather occasionally, that may be a sign that your Vitamin D levels are suboptimal. Vitamin D works hand in hand with your body to modulate immune activity. Many immune cells have receptors for Vitamin D including macrophages, dendritic cells, monocytes, as well as T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes. This means that Vitamin D plays a big role in modulating both innate and adaptive immune responses.

FAQs

What is the optimal level of Vitamin D?

Optimal levels of Vitamin D have been hotly contested for decades, with ‘normal’ being described by many physicians as anything above 20ng/dl. These days, many progressive doctors are waking up to how important Vitamin D is, and how much is required to support optimal health, thus many have changed ‘normal’ to anything above 30ng/dl. I prefer to see my patients between 55-80ng/dl. Speak to your qualified healthcare provider to find out what level is best for you based on your age, weight, and health history.

How can I find out my Vitamin D levels?

If you’d like to have your Vitamin D levels checked, all it requires is a simple and inexpensive blood test. Many doctors will order this test for you if you ask them too, and it is especially important to monitor your levels when you are taking higher amounts in an effort to raise your Vitamin D to optimal levels. You may also consider ordering a vItamin D3 test for yourself at a reputable website such as www.mylabsforlife.com.

When is the best time of day to take Dr. Myers’ Vitamin D3/K2 Capsules? Should they be taken with or without food?

My Vitamin D3/K2 capsules can be taken at any time of the day, morning or evening. I prefer my patients to take it while the sun is up as that is when your body produces the vast majority of your Vitamin D3. My Vitamin D3/K2 Liquid should always be taken with meals if possible as both Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 are fat soluble, and taking the formula with a meal will greatly improve its absorption.

Can I take Dr. Myers’ Vitamin D3/K2 if I already take The Myers Way® Complete Multivitamin?

Yes, my Vitamin D3/K2 is safe to take as directed alongside The Myers Way® Complete Multivitamin when used as directed, provided you have spoken to your physician first to ensure that you are not taking any prescriptions that may be contraindicated (especially blood thinners), or should not take it for any other reason. Keep in mind it is important to monitor blood levels when taking Vitamin D long term.

Is Dr. Myers’ Vitamin D3/K2 safe for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers?

My Vitamin D3/K2 formula is safe to take while pregnant or nursing when used as directed, provided you have spoken to your physician first to ensure that you are not taking any prescriptions that may be contraindicated (especially blood thinners), or should not take it for any other reason. Keep in mind it is important to monitor blood levels when taking Vitamin D long term.

Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Queen of Roses (Blood of a Fae #1) by Briar Boleyn Genre General Fiction ( Adult), Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Romance “More primordial than the stars. My name was on his lips as he promised unspeakable darkness to any who came between us.” Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!! I’m a big fan of “touch her, and you die” vibes, but I mean, what’s also not to love about a unique Arthurian retelling with gender twists, a treacherous royal court, a dangerous quest, magical Fae & mystical monsters, entwined with a bit of spice! Morgan, Princess of Pendrath and true heir to the throne has spent most of her life dimming her light to feel safe and to make others comfortable. She is treated as an outcast in the court and repressed by her family due to the blood of the Fae within her and forced to join the Temple of the Three as a priestess in training to one day replace Merlin. Her brother, King Arthur, who reminds me of Joffrey from Game of Thrones, later tells her that he has other plans and offers her a choice of the Temple or to marry her off for political gain, unless… that is, she can journey through the great unknown and return with a long-lost fae weapon with enchanted powers known as Excalibur. Her quest begins with a roguish crew that includes the mysterious, arrogant, and heart-tuggingly handsome Captain of the Royal Guard, Kairos Draven, whom she can’t decide if she wants to stab or indulge in pleasure with. Along the way are plenty of surprises, mystical creatures, and betrayal, all while Morgan uncovers more of the truth about herself and who she can trust. This book had intriguing storylines and lovable characters that kept me turning pages and wanting more. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds and comes together in book 2, Court of Claws, which I just started reading!! Read if you’re into- Dark Fantasy/Romance Slow–Burn Question Everything Magic and Action Fae Arthurian Legend Stabby/Broken FFC Morally Gray MMC Forced Proximity Queen of Roses is perfect for Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Sarah J. Maas fans. Please check the trigger warnings page in the table of contents before reading this book.

3.5 stars, A little boring to say the least.
Format: Kindle
Wow so I'm not sure where to begin on this one. This was a very different take on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur. This is told from the point of view of Morgan the sister of Arthur. Honestly the first 50% of this book is world building and character building which unfortunately was super boring for me. Morgan to me was a female MC that had a hard time in believing in herself. Sometimes taking too long to understand exactly what was going on around her. Draven was also a different male MC, like I couldn't put my finger on him and what he was all about. It was not until the last 10% of the book did we get some answers on the mystery that is Draven. The other 50% of the book centered around this big journey with everyone having a different motive. We see a spark of magic around this time that had me excited but then we never expanded upon that and what it could mean for the female MC. I feel like I want to read the second book just to see where this goes, but the spice was probably a 2 out of 5. Side characters are ok, Lancelet was fun but I almost felt like I wanted more.

A bewitching retelling of Arthurian legend!
Format: Kindle
In a land where the Fae have nearly become only a legend and those who still posses even a morsel of the blood are few and far between, Morgan finds herself cast aside by most of society due to her rumored half-Fae lineage, including her brother, King Arthur. With the kingdom at the brink of war, Arthur entrusts her with a quest to retrieve a Fae weapon of legendary power: the sword of Perun, Excalibur. Accompanied by men she loathes, Captain Kairos Draven and Ragnar Whitehorn, she embarks on her long and unbeknownst perilous journey, only to find that things she once believed to be myth are in fact very real. With devastating twists, omitted truths, witty banter and fierce action, Queen of Roses leaves you begging to know more about the secrets of Aercanum! Wow, wow, wow! Going into this story, I did not realize that it was going to be a retelling of Arthurian legend, especially not one with a fantastical twist! The unique spin almost gave me The Witcher vibes and I think adding Fae into the mix was quite interesting. I knew the basics of the legend but after reading this book, it has piqued my interest and makes me want to learn more about it. My attention was snatched as soon as I finished the prologue and I knew that I was going to devour this story. I truly enjoyed the gender swaps and even how Arthur was portrayed as villainous. Morgan’s past and even her parts of her present is absolutely heartbreaking, and I felt for her at times. I can only recall one other book that made me hate characters the way I despised Florian and Arthur, leaving me with my blood boiling and feeling disgusted. Even after finishing the book, Draven is still a mystery to me and I cannot figure out how to feel about him. I guess they just means that the author did an excellent job at conveying each character’s persona! The rich world building and imagery made it easy for me to visualize the places that the group visited along their journey. I am truly engulfed in this story and I cannot wait to see wait fate awaits Morgan and how the Fae will be even more incorporated in the next book!. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enchanting
Format: Kindle
"Queen of Roses" by Briar Boleyn is a delightful and refreshing reimagining of the classic tale of King Arthur, with a captivating twist that places the spotlight on Morgan, a character who has often been overshadowed in traditional retellings. Boleyn's creative decision to shift the narrative perspective to Morgan breathes new life into the story, offering readers an intriguing and compelling look at the Arthurian world from an entirely different angle. One of the most commendable aspects of this book is its incorporation of Fae elements, which adds an enchanting layer of magic and mystery to the already familiar Arthurian setting. Boleyn skillfully weaves the world of the Fae into the narrative, creating a captivating backdrop against which the events of the story unfold. This addition not only adds depth to the world-building but also provides ample opportunities for twists and turns that keep readers thoroughly engrossed. However, while the book boasts numerous strengths, it does have one noticeable flaw: the characterization of Morgan. While it is reasonable to create a flawed and complex protagonist, it appears that at times, Morgan's character becomes overly difficult and hard to relate to. Her persistently negative perception of one of the main male characters, who is a potential love interest, despite his efforts to support and assist her, may come across as somewhat irrational and could test the patience of some readers. Striking a balance between a strong, independent character and one who can recognize genuine support and affection could have enhanced the overall reader experience. Nonetheless, the allure of "Queen of Roses" lies in its innovative approach to the Arthurian legend and its skillful blending of fantasy elements into a familiar narrative. Boleyn's evocative prose draws readers into a world where magic, destiny, and fate entwine, leaving us eager to uncover the mysteries that unfold within the pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An action-packed dark romantasy
Format: Kindle
I loved this book! Queen of Roses is an Arthurian-inspired dark romantasy that is the first book in the Blood of Fae series. The story follows Morgan, the princess of Camelot who is rumored to be part fae. Fueled by prejudiced hatred and a mistrust of fae blood, Morgan’s abusive father strips her of her birthright and hands it to her half-brother, Arthur. Instead of becoming queen, Morgan is commanded to join the temple of the goddesses when she comes of age. However, Arthur turns into a psychopathic, power-hungry, fae-hating king as he ages. He develops malevolent plans and commands Morgan to find an ancient weapon with legendary power. Although Morgan is wary of Arthur’s intentions, she embraces the opportunity to go on a journey and potentially change her fate. The story picks up from there and we follow Morgan on her quest to find the ancient relic. It’s full of high stakes adventure, mystery, tension, banter, forced proximity, hidden magic, self discovery, and betrayal. This first installment of the series intricately develops the world building and character development. There’s little romance in this book, but it is evident that it is a slow burn that will continue to develop throughout the remainder of the series. Overall, I loved the world building, the epic fantasy, Morgan’s journey of self discovery, and all of the twists and turns that set the stage for the future installments. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
